Monday’s Cut: CFDA on Skinny Models

Anyone who knows me knows there are two models I love love love. Chanel Iman and Coco Rocha. I was lucky to be able to be backstage when Chanel was getting her makeup done for Jason Wu (and I can even tell you how nice she is?), but sadly didn’t see Coco at any of the shows I attended.

The CFDA held a panel last week on Skinny Models and Coco Rocha was a guest speaker. NY Mag’s The Cut gives a snapshot look into how it all went down: Skinny Models & Coco Rocha

It’s true. I interacted with so many models backstage last fashion week–many were stand offish and distant, but Chanel was amazingly warm and friendly.

This is a serious topic – not that I had to tell you that. I was at the shows last fashion week, and was horrified by how thin the models were. I could see bones on almost all of them. After the show, I asked my husband how he liked the show. He replied “That was disgusting! Why do designers want models that thin? It doesn’t make the clothes look good. The girls look sick.” I was thrilled that he noticed! The girls are stand offish b/c they are HUNGRY! They are probably about to pass out. Great post. The issue clearly needs attention, b/c it effects way beyond the fashion world.

I agree Jean. At one point when I was backstage there was a model with every bone in her body showing. Her hip bones pertruded so much that it looked like she had a cell phone bulging in each pocket. I was horrified as many of the clothes just dangled on the girls. I had tried to take pictures as they went down the runway, but it came out blurry.

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful faces—
But not enough muscle in all the right places!

Fashion’s message to the world should be:
    BEAUTIFUL is beautifully HEALTH-Y!

Chanel Iman is one of those naturally gorgeous women that has a lot of style. Wearing designer clothes or outlet clothes, she would still look great! Love how long and lean her body is
