Orly Nail Lacquer in Rage

Orly_Foil_FXI like shiny things. A nice clean, shiny car. Healthy, shiny hair. Big, shiny diamond jewelry (definitely like.) And I love shiny nail polish. So I was pretty excited when I heard about Orly’s Foil FX Color Collection for Spring/Summer. Foil FX lacquers are meant to give a texturized foil effect to your nails, best of all, they claim high shine. I was sent Rage, a metallic pink toned polish. Right up my alley.

Consistency: As with most lacquers with sparkle to them, I expected the consistency of this nail polish to be chunky and difficult to apply, but that was not the case. While the look is a texturized foil, the consistency is very smooth and glided easily over my nails.

The Look: Definitely gave the look of metallic foil on my nails. Many of my friends would remark on how much they loved the look of this nail lacquer. The claim of high shine was spot on.

How long did it last? Unfortunately, even with a top coat on, Rage did not last long at all. By day 2 it was already peeling and chipping. Naturally, it lasted longer as a pedicure color versus a manicure.

The verdict: I loved the idea of Foil FX and I loved how it looked on my nails. For a (very) short term go of a Spring trend, the $7.50 price tag for a bottle is reasonable. However, for my lifestyle (typing away on the computer and 4 kids=lots of laundry, doing dishes, et. al) it just isn’t practical as I would have to constantly be re-applying it.  But for fun’s sake, LOVE.

Your last line sums it up so well; dishes, kids, laundry needn’t spoil the effect however brief! x

It is beautiful but the chipping… I wonder if it would make a difference if you put a strong topcoat over it?

I did, actually. I used Zoya Nail Polish’s “Armour.” But alas, it still didn’t really help.

I love metallic colors — they seem to be all the rage with fashion, so it makes sense that it would filter down to nail polish!

Have you ever tried “Nicole by OPI?” Their metallic color collections are lovely and last quite a while for me. I have “Metallic Chic” and “I Really Lilac You”…both are just gorgeous. I use Creative Nail Design’s “Super Shiney High Gloss Top Coat” and my manicure is good for at least one week. This top coat provides a shine also lasts for the duration of the manicure. It’s about the shiniest top coat I’ve ever seen.
