Specific Beauty Exfoliating Cleansing Cloths vs CVS Exfoliating Cleansing Towelettes

As soon as people learn that I write a beauty blog, I’m typically asked a lot of questions about which beauty products work best, if there is one brand that is better than another and so on. On occasion readers have pointed out that Brand A and Brand B have exactly the same product…which is better? Typically I don’t have two identical products made by different brands to make a comparison…until recently.

In my makeup bag I have CVS Exfoliating Towelettes, which I recently picked up at my local CVS for around $2 for a pack of 30. Then I was gifted Specific Beauty Exfoliating Cleansing Cloths at an event, which also comes in a 30-pack for about $7. Both are textured on one side, both exfoliate and both promote the cucumber, aloe and green tea in the cloths. Both cloths look exactly the same, feel exactly the same on my skin, remove my makeup exactly the same and when I looked at the ingredients on the packaging…those were exactly the same too. So if both brands’ cloths are exactly the same, then why the $5 price difference?

The only thing I can think of is that you are paying for branding with Specific Beauty, which is targeted to multi-hued skin tones. So if you buy into this line from Specific Beauty already, chances are you are just about one-stop shopping. (I’ve been known to do it myself.) There is a very slight difference in the cloth itself, which you can see in the photo…although the CVS one only looks grey because of the shadowing in my bathroom.

Besides CVS’ being $5 cheaper, their packaging is actually better as well. CVS’ has a snap top cover while Specific Beauty’s just re-seals its peel back sticker. Have you used either of these products? Let us know in the comments.

    Thank you Tiffany!

I bought the CVS ones once instead of the Almay I used to buy and was amazed how similar those two brands were. I’m now using CVS non-oily eye makeup remover pads which are also identical to the Almay ones. I like the savings!

I can’t remember the other brand that had something similar, but I think it was a store brand too.

Great review! It’s pretty rare that you can really compare two products that have the same ingredients like that. I will on occasion use the Yes to cucumbers facial wipes and those are great as well. I tend to use those when I’m camping and don’t have the conveniences of home :)

Hi Victoria, this experience has definitely enlightened me to cross check products from now on in order to know when something is really worth paying more (or less) for!
