L’Oreal Infallible 8 Hour vs. 6 Hour Never Fail Lipgloss

L'Oreal Infallible Lipgloss

I am a lipgloss fanatic. I prefer it over lipstick any day. But the trouble with lipgloss is how quickly it comes off. When taping my PA Live segments I always apply gloss on my way into the building…but by the time we start filming, it is usually gone. So while at CVS 2 weeks ago, I saw L’Oreal’s Infallible Never Fail Lipgloss and decided I’d give it a go. I picked up their new 8 Hour lipgloss (Red Fatale, 320), as well as the 6 Hour Lipgloss (Undeniable Mauve, 515) not realizing that besides the difference in color, there would be a difference in performance.

6 Hour Lipgloss: The color looks richly pigmented in the bottle, but as you can see on my hand, it tends to have a sheerness to it. I wanted the color I saw in the bottle, so I applied 2 coats and let it dry. It was definitely shiny, like I like my gloss to be, and it stayed put for hours…until I took a drink and began to eat. Then it came off on the cup and although I still had color on my lips, it was much less so. Still I wasn’t disappointed because at least it was still on my lips, whereas a regular gloss would’ve been gone entirely. This gloss doesn’t feel sticky, but it doesn’t feel like regular gloss either.

8 Hour Lipgloss: Amanda rocks red and she is much lighter skinned than I am, so I decided I would really try to make a go of wearing red. I was sure to pick a red that was as true red as possible without that orange hue. As you can see from the swatch on my hand, this is a full cover gloss, and I was stoked. The red was very bright and I loved it. I did notice that it looked more like I painted my lips with lacquer than lipgloss though. Almost like patent leather on my lips. 8 Hour Infallible is not only supposed to last longer, but it is supposed to be more hydrating. I didn’t find that to be the case. This gloss came off onto my teeth when I would talk and I would constantly have people telling me I had red on my teeth. It would also bleed down into the cracks of my mouth, pooling color and product that when I talked, I could actually feel it and would have to keep wiping it out. And like the 6 Hour, when I ate or drank, the color came off and faded. I didn’t find that this gloss lasted 8 hours.

I’m definitely going to stick with the 6 Hour for however longer they make it (you can no longer find it on their website) even though the color is more sheer than I want. While I LOVE the coverage of 8 Hour, I just don’t think the formula is that good.

Have you tried either?

I haven’t tried either one, but I’ve been curious about the 8-hour one. Glad I read your review because it saved me a few bucks!

Interesting, I used to wear a certain brand which I hate. After I ate something, all else fades away, I reapply again and again. Good thing they have this kind of lipgloss nowadays.

I have been using their 6 hour gloss for a few years now because it is the ONLY gloss that stays on my lips and keeps them moisturized. Acne medication has left my lips chronically dry, and this stuff was a life saver. But the 8 hour gloss is CRAP!! It is SO much thinner and doesn’t stay on at all! My lips were completely chapped within 2 days of using it! Why did they have to mess with perfection?? :(
