By now you know that I consider exfoliation a VERY important step in helping to fight aging. Exfoliation helps to turn over dead skin cells on the surface of the skin revealing younger, fresher skin. One of the easiest and least expensive ways to exfoliate is a facial scrub. but how do you chose one? Look for ingredients like glycolic or salicylic acid and fine scrubbing beads.
Tell you what–I’ll save you all that work by recommending Murad Age Reform AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser ($35), part of Murad’s Age Reform line. The Age Reform line is specifically formulated with advanced anti-aging ingredients created to diminish fine lines, wrinkles, restore resilience and firmness and refine texture and improve tone.
This exfoliating cleanser polishes away dullness and smoothes skin’s texture while cleansing skin of locked-in impurities. These three gentle exfoliating acids; Salicylic, Lactic and Glycolic Acids provide clarity, brightness and improve cell-turnover by dissolving dead skin cell buildup. Jojoba beads gently polish and smooth skins texture. What makes this cleanser different is the combination of AHA’s and BHA acids. The norm is to concentrate on one of those. Murad’s Age Reform AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser combines AHA’s Lactic and Glycolic acids to exfoliate, brighten and improve cell turnover while the BHA–Salicylic acid deep cleans pores of dirt and debris. It doesn’t stop there though, Sodium hydrates dry skin and Licorice extract calms irritation and inflammation.
The cleanser is gentle enough to use 2-3 times a week, smells fresh and the beads have a very fine texture. I’ve been using this for about 3 weeks and my skin is glowing! Packaging is a squeeze tube that should last at least four months as you only need a small amount.
Bottom Line: finally an exfoliating treatment that doesn’t irritate or rip my skin! The combination of the “magic three” acids in addition to the hydrating jojoba beads makes this an ideal cleanser for over 40 skin. Salicylic acid is commonly used to treat acne so this cleanser is great for troubled skin too!
Murad also makes an excellent refreshing cleanser, see my review here.
