Jan Marini Bioglycolic Face Cleanser ($29) is a gentle cleanser made with my personal favorite ingredient, glycolic acid. If you’ve never used glycolic acid, let me tell you it’s fabulous for aging as well as acne prone skin. It helps wrinkles AND pimples, how cool is that?
Glycolic acid is the most active and beneficial of the Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHA) used in skin care and is derived from sugar cane. *It stimulates the collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis, improving the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and other forms of sun damage. **Due to this unique mechanism of action, glycolic acid has also been found to be beneficial for the management of conditions involving hyperkeratinization, i.e., psoriasis, ichthyosis, acne, dry skin, etc. Anyone suffering from these skin disorders would benefit greatly from the use of glycolic acid. It’s a fundamental part of a skin care maintenance program that will keep your skin healthy throughout the years.
The only thing you have to watch out for with glycolic acid is the strength–it’s best to build up slowly, that’s why I like Jan Marini Bioglycolic Face Cleanser. This cleanser is soap free, non-irritating and rinses completely so there is no need for toner or astringent to dry out your skin. It also contains sorbitol, a natural humectant derived from berries that leaves skin soft and supple.
The way you use this cleanser is a bit different. You apply it DRY skin, massaging in and then remove with a wet wrung out washcloth, then rinse thoroughly with water. I’ve tried a few cleanser that you apply dry and they seem to do a much better job at dissolving makeup and sunscreen than traditional cleansers. This left my skin feeling fresh, clean and hydrated.
Bioglycolic Face Cleanser comes in a sanitary 8 oz. pump bottle that should last a good long time. This is also a nice cleanser to use with a Clarisonic if you have one.
Ingredients:
Water (Aqua), Glycolic Acid, Sorbitol, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Ammonium Hydroxide, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben
Bottom Line: a great daily gentle cleanser for over 40 skin!
