Jumbo seems to be quite a fad in cosmetics. We’re seeing all kinds of chubby crayons from lipsticks to eye shadows. I guess I’m a chubby chaser when it comes to lipstick, because I love the ease with which they apply, just a few quick swipes and you’re done. I do have one of the Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Balms and several Tarte LipSurgence sticks, but I wanted to see if there was something available at a drugstore price. The CoverGirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm ($7) display lured me in (okay, I wasn’t really that hard to get).
There are 16 shades ranging from nudes, to pink, plums reds and browns. I chose #235 Coral Twist, a vibrant coral pink. This is a great spring and summer shade, it has no shimmer but really brightens up the face. There is plenty of pigment and it lasts a good long time. Beware, the cap colors are deceiving–being anywhere from one shade lighter to one shade darker than the actual color. I was disappointed because I expected a shiny gloss, but the finish is really more of a semi-matte. The texture does feel nice on the lips though and is not sticky. These don’t have that real cushiony feel I get from a balm, but I think that’s the trade off if you want pigment. Wear is average for a semi-matte gloss, about three hours. You may want to use a clear lip liner as the pencil did tend to bleed after a few hours. If you’re not older than dirt like me, no worries!
Bottom Line: the shades are the pretty, the price is right, good pigment CoverGirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm could be a good choice for you!
