5 Ways to Minimize Pores
The number one question that I get asked is how to minimize pores. As someone who did not take care of her skin when she was younger, I'm now paying the price with large pores (thanks younger me!) There's no way to get rid of large pores altogether (sorry), however there are some ways you can minimize them.
Products For Your Skin Type
My go-to skin care expert is Renée Rouleau. Not only because her skin care line is based on 9 skin types, but because she practices what she preaches! Minimizing pores begins with using the right skin care products that match your skin type. The wrong products could result in excessive dryness or an overproduction of sebum. Stop allowing your skin to go from one extreme to another and find it, its perfect match!Products For Your Skin Type
Sorry ladies, monthly facials are not a luxury, but a necessity! You need to trust your face to a professional for a deep cleaning that at-home skin care products simply can't achieve. I mean, you change your car's oil every 3000 miles, why are you skipping maintenance on your skin? Groupon and LivingSocial are always great places to look for local spa and salon deals, not to mention checking the websites of your favorite spa.
Ice and Cold Water
In a pinch, cold water and ice can be used to minimize pores. Skin reacts by tightening and giving the appearance that your pores are smaller. Call it an optical illusion! Who's the magician now?!
Obviously blackheads are a major contributor to more noticeable pores. (This is where the monthly facial part comes in.) If you insist on extracting them yourself, only do it post-shower (or post-steam) since that will help loosen the dirt and hardened oil. Always use tissues when gently pressing down on skin to extract the blackheads to avoid further damaging the skin.
Last but not least, exfoliate your skin 1-2x a week. From physical exfoliants to chemical exfoliants, there is something out there suitable for your skin type that will help remove the dead skin that clogs your pores making them a bullseye on your face.Exfoliate
While we can’t shrink pores, we can definitely minimize their appearance and prevent them from getting worse. Follow these 5 tips and you’ll be on your way. (Take it from the girl with large pores.)
