Miss Jessie’s Multicultural Curls

Miss Jessie's Multicultural Curls #review

I consider my naturally curly hair both a gift and a curse.  When my hair decides to behave in its natural state, it is a huge mane of defined, bouncy curls that I positively revel in, but when my hair decides to act up, it become a pouf of frizz or a saddened state of lifeless curls that I cannot wait to get rid of.

Usually whenever my hair does act up, it is mostly due to the styling (products) I chose to use.  Either the product was too heavy and weighed my hair down or not hydrating enough and caused my curls to transform into a ball of frizz.  Rarely do I ever use just one product to style my curly hair. A couple to a few products are usually required to get those bouncy, shiny, hydrated curls that I always desire.  Read more

Everyone Bath Soaks Review

Everyone Bath Soak #review #bathtime #relax

The thought of soaking in a bathtub filled with hot water, for me, is the epitome of complete and total relaxation.

Imagining my muscles relaxing, any knots in my body unwinding and my mind being completely at ease, is just sheer bliss.  Add an amazing bath soak containing epsom salts, organic olive oil, and four different essential oil blends and bath time becomes the ultimate at-home spa experience as it was for me when I first tried Everyone Bath Soaks.  Read more

Snack Your Way to Beautiful Skin

Snack Your Way to Beautiful Skin #Skincare

When it comes to achieving beautiful skin, I believe that it’s always best to start from the inside out.

I’ve seen firsthand the difference in my skin when I eat a healthy, clean, well-balanced diet as opposed to when I eat processed foods.  Not only do I feel more alive and energetic when I eat healthy, but my skin looks so clear, glowing and healthy that I can actually skip makeup.  Since I am a bit…a big bit…OK, a huge fan of snacking, I try to make sure that I snack on foods that are also healthy, nutritious and great for my skin.  I’ve gathered a list of snack foods that are tasty, filling, healthy and have amazing skin benefits.  Read more

DIY Yogurt Face Mask

#DIY Yogurt Facial Masks #skincare

Yogurt tends to be one of the most versatile foods that I consume on a daily basis.  I will have it with granola and fruits for breakfast, as a post workout snack with a few almonds, in a shake or on its own.  For me it’s easy, fast, nutritious, healthy and filling. After all, it is considered a super food, especially if you consume plain unsweetened yogurt. Yogurt also has some amazing skin benefits when used topically.

Yogurt contains nutrients such as Lactic Acid, Zinc B Vitamins and Calcium.  Lactic Acid smoothes and exfoliates skin, moisturizes dry skin and is beneficial in preventing wrinkles and reducing existing wrinkles.  Zinc contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation caused by acne. It also helps to tighten tissue and reduces the size of acne and pimples. Zinc also regulates oil production and prevents oily skin and breakouts.  B Vitamins are essential for cell growth and regeneration.  They also protect skin cells from free radical damage.  Calcium is an amazing anti-oxidant that helps to heal skin and also facilitates skin renewal. DIY Lip Care Treatments

DIY Lip Treatments #skincare #DIY

My lips are one of those areas of my face that I will admit gets neglected. I wear a protective lip balm to keep them hydrated, but when it comes to pampering them I am neglectful.

Lately I have been making it a beauty priority to give my lips their very own spa time.  I exfoliate them, apply a lip mask and hydrate them the same way I do with the rest of my face.  I’ve realized that it is actually extremely easy to whip up lip care treatments with a lot of the items in my refrigerator for soft, plump, hydrated lips.  Read more

MSC Skin Care Bourbon Vanilla and Oak Soap

MSC Bourban Vanilla and Oak Soap #review #bathandbody

I am a huge fan of artisan bar soaps. Don’t get me wrong, I like shower gels, creams and washes, but there is just something about an artisan bar soap that is so much more appealing. For me it almost feels more personal and luxurious.

Combine a great bar soap with an incredible scent and it’s almost impossible to get me out of the shower – an issue that I’ve been dealing with since I started using MSC Skin Care Bourbon Vanilla and Oak Bar Soap.  MSC Skin Care + Home produces bath, body and home products that are all handmade in Brooklyn, NY and features an assortment of custom fragrance blends.  Read more

Lemongrass Facial Steam

Benefits & How To: Lemongrass Facial Steam #skincare #DIYbeauty

Whenever I have any type of a skin concern I can always count on my friends for advice. Advice, that sometimes can be great, sometimes not so good and a lot of times just plain weird. The last bit of skin care advice I received from my best friend was actually one of the great ones and one that I have been practicing weekly.

My best friend Sam mentioned that her mom uses lemongrass whenever she steams her face for skin that’s clear, toned, glowing and looks almost poreless.  Apparently her mom has been doing this for years and it is something that was passed down from the other women in her family in her native Cambodia.  Lemongrass is an anti-microbial and anti-bacterial herb. This means it will help limit bacterial or microbial growth on the skin. It can help ward off skin infections as well as lessen skin issues caused by bacterial infections. Read more

RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek In Illusive

RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Illusive #review #makeup

I’ve wanted to try RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek for quite some time now, but never found it in any of my usual beauty stores until I paid a holiday visit to my favorite Brow Studio, Blink For Beauty in Minneapolis, MN.  Finally RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek was right in front of my eyes so I could actually test the colors on my skin and not just guess which color would look good on my skin tone based on a online swatch.

I decided on the Lip2Cheek in Illusive, a berry shade described more accurately as a matte burnt rose hue with a hint of plum.  The color is very soft and pretty on my skin tone.  Whenever I want a more natural look, I will use barely any of the product on both my cheeks and lips, but for a night out I can go bolder with the same color by just adding a bit more.  Read more

Beauty Benefits of Red Wine

Beauty Benefits of Red Wine

Normally the last thing I consider doing with red wine is applying it to my skin, I mean that just sounds like a complete waste of a good glass…or bottle of wine.  But little did I know that this entire time I could’ve been drinking and having a spa experience at the same time for under $20.

I’ve been aware of the fact that consuming red wine in moderation can protect my heart and can also protect my body from various diseases caused by inflammation thanks to resveratrol, the antioxidant in red wine that has anti-inflammatory properties, but was completely unaware that I can also apply wine to my face, straight from the bottle for beautiful, glowing skin. I guess there IS a reason why red wine facials have gained a cult-like following in spas worldwide.  Combined with the right ingredients, red wine can be used in a facial masque, facial scrub and facial toner.
