In the skin department, Summer usually means oilier than normal skin for me.
Which also means clogged pores, and at times, acne prone skin accompanied by dehydrated and irritated skin thanks to time spent in the sun and insane amounts of sunscreen.
One of the best ways that I deal with summer skin issues is by relying pretty heavily on face masks. For me, it’s just easier to introduce face masks intended to treat my particular skin woes than to change my entire skincare routine; plus masks always makes an at-home facial feel incredibly indulgent. Aloe vera has long been known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Anyone who has had a sunburn knows that aloe vera is a must-have beauty staple.
I’ve begun to notice that lately aloe vera is in everything from beauty products to juices and supplements – I’ve even seen it frozen in ice cube trays, which makes complete sense since the benefits of aloe vera seem never-ending.
Some of the many advantages to incorporating aloe into your beauty routine are:
- When taken in a supplement or drink, it helps to support a healthy digestive system, a healthy immune system and normal muscle and joint functions
- It reduces toxins in the body, aids in digestion and has an alkalizing effect on the body
- It is high in amino and fatty acids as well as vitamins and minerals
- It’ss great for applying topically to burns, abrasions, psoriasis, bug bites and sunburnt skin
- Since aloe is has a high water content, it is a great way to hydrate, moisturize and rejuvenate skin
- Aloe increases skin elasticity by making it more flexible through collagen and elastin repair
- Aloe is also an emollient, helping to soften and soothe the skin
- It helps supply oxygen to the skin cells, increasing the strength and synthesis of skin tissue and induces improved blood flow to the skin
With all of these amazing benefits, it’s no wonder we’re finding it in more skin care products.

I’m one of those people who truly enjoys working out. I absolutely love how I feel after a workout and actually dread missing my gym time.
There are those times though, when life happens and my hectic schedule just does not allow for driving to the gym and putting in an hour plus long workout. During those times I still try my best to incorporate some form of fitness into my day, which is where the Zobi comes in very handy. Read more
The holiday travel season is officially upon us so I’ve decided to share some of my favorite travel friendly beauty products in hopes that it will make this holiday travel season a bit less stressful…and germ free.
1. Farmaesthetics Cool Aloe Mist This spritz is ideal for air travel because it is hydrating, refreshing and purifying. The cool aloe mist soothes dry skin and doubles an anti-bacterial, which is important in such an enclosed environment where air is re-circulated. Just spray it around your personal space prior to boarding for a relaxing scent and to ward off those airplane germs. Read more
National day(s) of complete diet obliteration …also known as “the holidays,” is almost upon us.
As much as I am looking forward to unlimited pumpkin pie and stuffing, I know that beginning the day after Thanksgiving, all I am going to want to do is detox.
This year I am one step ahead of the game with Teami Skinny Tea. Teami Skinny Tea combines a blend of natural ingredients meant to boost metabolism, improve digestive problems and help to suppress cravings to help achieve weight loss goals. Read more
I’ll be honest, I was not very familiar with the world of cosmetic ultrasound treatments when I decided to try the Mira-Skin Ultrasound device.
Upon doing my research, I learned that ultrasound is a non-surgical/non-invasive treatment that counteracts the effects of time and gravity on your skin. Ultrasound uses the body’s own regenerative response to gently and gradually lift skin on the eyebrow, under the chin and on the neck, and smooth lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. It can improve the appearance of moderately loose or sagging skin by depositing focused ultrasound energy below the surface to stimulate the body’s creation of new collagen.
The Mira-Skin Ultrasound device promises the benefits of a professional cosmetic ultrasound spa treatment in the comfort of your own home whenever you so desire and at a fraction of the price. After receiving my Mira-Skin Ultrasound, I used it for a month before writing this review. Read more

The only department in Whole Foods that I normally skip is the beauty department. It’s true.
I guess I’ve always just felt that the Whole Foods beauty department contained products that would be of little or no interest to me due to them smelling weird or my assumption that they were ineffective.
Well we all know what they say about assuming. Silly me.
After actually browsing through the beauty department, I realized that Whole Foods carried some of my favorite beauty products that I normally have to search for online due to most retailers not carrying them in store. Whole Foods has now become one of my favorite destinations for beauty products that are natural, organic, cruelty free and that perform amazingly well.
A few of my favorite beauty products from Whole Foods are: Read more
I know that this may sound somewhat contradictory, but I love wearing makeup that I can’t really feel.
I like knowing that it’s there on my skin, but do not want to be reminded that it’s actually sitting on my skin throughout the day. Read more
Finding makeup that contains sunscreen, but does not leave my skin looking gray and ashy, has always been a challenge for me. I’m sure it has been a challenge for a lot of women of color, too.
I love and want to take care of my skin by making sure that I wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with an spf of at least 20, but I also hate the feel of too much product sitting on my face (especially during the warmer months.) It can be difficult to find makeup that also provides broad spectrum sun protection without making me look like I’ve put baby powder on my face. Can you relate??? Read more
