Whenever I have any type of a skin concern I can always count on my friends for advice. Advice, that sometimes can be great, sometimes not so good and a lot of times just plain weird. The last bit of skin care advice I received from my best friend was actually one of the great ones and one that I have been practicing weekly.
My best friend Sam mentioned that her mom uses lemongrass whenever she steams her face for skin that’s clear, toned, glowing and looks almost poreless. Apparently her mom has been doing this for years and it is something that was passed down from the other women in her family in her native Cambodia. Lemongrass is an anti-microbial and anti-bacterial herb. This means it will help limit bacterial or microbial growth on the skin. It can help ward off skin infections as well as lessen skin issues caused by bacterial infections. Read more
I think I can speak for most of us when I say … I am so over this winter! It can feel free to exit stage left anytime now.
This winter has been brutal! Snow removal has been a pain, navigating the slippery roads has been a disaster, and the cold has been killer on my skin. Being a compulsive lip balm and moisturizer user, I don’t remember ever feeling as dry as I have this winter. I’ve never had (or needed) a special Winter skin care regimen. My usual daily moisturizer and lip balm were all I needed … until this Polar Vortex-out of control-freezing cold-full of snow-winter we are in the middle of.
My skin hates this winter and to be honest, it started to get a painful. My poor face actually started to hurt and my lips … oh my lips … they were SO dry it was painful. My usual routine wasn’t cutting it this winter, so I’ve enlisted some new products to join my daily routine and I can report that I am dry no longer. I’m thankful for that. It was a terrible feeling to smack my lips together and have it hurt. Same goes for my face. The Groundhog saw his shadow, so we’ve got a bit longer to suffer this winter! If you’re experiencing dry skin or dry lips, here’s what did the trick for me. Read more
The Dead Sea is known for its one-of-a-kind mineral-rich properties. It is highly sought after in skin and body care because of how well it nourishes the skin.
Health & Beauty Dead Sea Minerals, an Israeli based beauty brand, recently reached out to me to try some of their skin care. This winter has caused carnage with my skin, so I agreed without batting an eye.
Soapless Face Peeling with Dead Sea Mud: This is an exfoliating cleanser that contains dead sea mud, green tea extract, argan oil, olive oil, tea tree oil, aloe vera and chamomile. It is gentle enough for everyday use. The consistency is like a thin gel and it’s not drying to your face. The exfoliation is nice and my skin felt great after using it. It does have a strong fragrance to it.
Purifying Mud Mask: I do love a good mud mask, which always works best with my combination skin. While oftentimes the downside is that clay or mud masks can tend to also be drying, this particular mud mask is enriched with aloe vera. While Health and Beauty says this product is safe for use 2-3 times per week, I always advise to only use a mud mask 1-2 to prevent skin from going into overdrive with sebum production. The texture of this mud mask is creamy and it does have that familiar mud fragrance that I love. Read more
I’ve wanted to try RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek for quite some time now, but never found it in any of my usual beauty stores until I paid a holiday visit to my favorite Brow Studio, Blink For Beauty in Minneapolis, MN. Finally RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek was right in front of my eyes so I could actually test the colors on my skin and not just guess which color would look good on my skin tone based on a online swatch.
I decided on the Lip2Cheek in Illusive, a berry shade described more accurately as a matte burnt rose hue with a hint of plum. The color is very soft and pretty on my skin tone. Whenever I want a more natural look, I will use barely any of the product on both my cheeks and lips, but for a night out I can go bolder with the same color by just adding a bit more. Read more
Normally the last thing I consider doing with red wine is applying it to my skin, I mean that just sounds like a complete waste of a good glass…or bottle of wine. But little did I know that this entire time I could’ve been drinking and having a spa experience at the same time for under $20.
I’ve been aware of the fact that consuming red wine in moderation can protect my heart and can also protect my body from various diseases caused by inflammation thanks to resveratrol, the antioxidant in red wine that has anti-inflammatory properties, but was completely unaware that I can also apply wine to my face, straight from the bottle for beautiful, glowing skin. I guess there IS a reason why red wine facials have gained a cult-like following in spas worldwide. Combined with the right ingredients, red wine can be used in a facial masque, facial scrub and facial toner. Read more
If you color treat or heat style your hair, you’ll want to indulge in Phyrra’s Pretty Little Elixir Hair Masque. This vegan, cruelty free and paraben free hair masque is the brain child of fellow beauty blogger, Phyrra. Phyrra’s Pretty Little Elixir Hair Masque was designed for heat treated, chemically treated, or dyed hair that’s dull or dry. It has nourishing ingredients to reduce the signs of external damage and restore hair’s softness, moisture and luster.
You can apply the mask to damp hair and cover with a hot towel for 10 minutes to allow it to absorb overnight if your hair is extra frizzy and dry. Simply work it from root to tip using a wide tooth comb, wrap, leave it on for 10 minutes (or overnight) and rinse with cool water.

The biggest mistake people make is tweezing too much. Avoid over plucking as it can take months for brows to grow back. Follow these tips from Malynda Vigliotti, aka Boom Boom, to get the perfect brows every time.
Brows are sisters, not twins – they should be proportionate, but not identical. Tip: The space between brows should be equal to, or a little wider than eyes. Take a long eye shadow brush or pencil and hold it parallel to the side of the nose. Where the brush meets the brow is where brows should begin. To find the end, extend the brush diagonally from the nostril following the outside edge of the eye toward the brow. Where the inside edge of the brush hits is where it should end. If brows are too far apart, it can make the nose appear larger – yikes! (See the step by step brow guide with pictures.) Read more
I love experimenting with hair color, whether it be a one step color, Balayage or highlights, for me experimenting with my hair color is a lot less scary than trying a brand new haircut. After all, if the color comes out terrible it can always be fixed without having to wait months or even a year for my hair to grow out.
For me the only negative of coloring my hair is the damage that hair color can do to the health of my hair. Which is where a conditioner that is protecting, really moisturizing, nourishing and formulated specifically for color treated hair comes in very handy. Surya Brasil Color Fixation Restorative Conditioner is amazing on my highlighted hair. The Color Fixation Restorative Conditioner is a super thick and creamy intensive treatment that contains nourishing Amazonian botanicals and plant based proteins along with natural oils and nut butters that protect hair from sun damage while restoring strength and luster and replenishing natural shine.
