Verb Detangle+Defrizz Conditioning Leave-In Mist Review

VERB To be completely up front about things, I hate washing my hair because it’s a nightmare to comb afterwards.  It’s much like that of a 6 year old little girl. It tangles like nobody’s business and is a nightmare to comb after washing. It’s so bad that my hairdresser schedules extra time for my appointments because my hair takes an extra 5-10 to comb out. It’s also very long… past my bra strap, but not quite down to my waist.

Now that you have a general idea of what a miserable task combing my hair post-shower is,  please let me introduce to you my new best friend. It’s a Detangle and Defrizz Conditioning Leave-In Mist ($12) from Verb and it’s like magic. No seriously, I’m in love. Detanglers meant for little kids that are sold at drugstores don’t do anything for my knotting. This magic potion however it’s truly amazeballs. (That’s the only word that felt appropriate.)  Read more

Changing Lives with Hair Growth Laser Procedure

laser hair growthA balding head can be very embarrassing and many people will do anything to recover from hair loss. There are a number of reasons that cause hair to thin out and die. The most common cause of balding is caused by Dihydrotestosteron or DHT. To stop and reverse hair loss, DHT must be inhibited because it causes hair follicles to thin and die. Collection of sebum due to building up of sebaceous oil can also cause hair loss. The sebum hardens in hair follicles hindering hair growth. Other causes of hair loss include poor hair nutrition and scalp hygiene.

For people suffering from hair loss it is possible to get a guaranteed solution from hair loss control clinics. Hair loss control clinics employ a therapy that involves:  Read more

U Luxury Collection Shampoo and Conditioner Review

u-luxury-shampoo-conditioner

The name and packaging hint that your hair is in for a treat, but I didn’t have any idea just what a luxury my hair was in for. It is very rare that I have any kind of reaction to a shampoo and conditioner. Maybe it’s the weather or the hard water here in Pennsylvania, but for whatever reason, it all tends to feel the same and turns out the same results. Never anything to get excited about … until I tried U Luxury shampoo and conditioner from Unite! Talk about luxury! For the first time in a very long time, I brushed my hair without the assistance of a leave-in conditioner or detangler! For me, that’s huge. Read more

Tibolli Moisture Lust Spray Review

Tibolli Moisture LustThe cold winter months have left my hair feeling dull and dry. If you’re anything like me, you probably don’t treat your hair as good as you should on a daily basis. I style the heck out of it some days and others it gets tossed into a pony tail. I condition after every shampoo, but the cold weather that continues into the spring here in Pennsylvania left my hair lifeless and thirsty for moisture.

When I first heard about Tibolli’s Moisture Lust Spray, I was hesitant about using it because I wasn’t sure what it was and I’m not usually a fan of leave -in-conditioners.  Tibolli’s Moisture Lust Spray promised to deliver light hydration, strengthen against damage, and leave a conditioned finish. After a long cold winter, I need all of those things … so I gave it a whirl!

I tried using it both ways it is suggested. You can either spray it in when your hair is damp after towel drying or after it’s dry. For me, I preferred using it while my hair was damp.  I was afraid that this spray would feel like a leave-in-conditioner, which tends to leave my hair heavy and filmy … but it didn’t! My hair felt smooth, soft, and light. A few squirts of the lightly (nice) scented formula gave me a nice dose of moisture, without weighing down my super-long hair. I’m a fan!  Read more

Go Back in Time: Beauty Tips for Your Teenage Self

As the saying goes, hind sight is 20/20. I thought I was a beauty wiz when I was a teenager. I even thought I was super trendy…maybe even ahead of the trends. You, too?

Then I look at pictures of myself from back in the day and snicker, and often realize why it was that I couldn’t get a boy to date me until I was 17. Those brows! The see-through bangs! The super curled then teased out hair! And the worst offense? That tail! I used to keep a section of my hair longer than the rest, bleach it blonde; sometimes I would braid it, othertimes I would decorate it with beads (as seen here.) Either way, this look you see below? I thought I had a good handle on beauty (and fashion.)

This picture is from 1989. I was in 9th grade (14 years old) and asked to be in a “fashion” photo shoot for a yearbook layout. I certainly felt my role as fashion and beauty icon was confirmed by this request. See the pic below: Read more

Head & Shoulders Damage Rescue Shampoo Conditioner and Hair Tips

hair-damageHair damage has been a big topic of conversation lately. Especially for me, since even 6 years post-baby, my hair still seems to break easily and fall out. I know that all of the hair coloring, blow drying, flat ironing and curling I am doing isn’t helping either. So I’ve been paying more attention to doing weekly hair treatments and trying to use products that are targeted for improving damaged hair.

For the launch of Head & Shoulders new Damage Rescue Shampoo and Conditioner, they did a survey to find out the top 10 most damaged cities in the US. I was sad to see that Philadelphia made the list. Although I am about 2.5 hours north of Philly, I definitely feel like I fit into this listing. Here are those 10 cities–is yours on the list?  Read more

Smith Farms Honeysuckle Hair and Body Oil Review

Smith Farms Honeysuckle Hair and Body OilFor soft, smooth, velvety skin, I’ve been turning to body oils. The lovely sisters at Smith Farms send me their Honeysuckle Hair and Body Oil ($16) to try. No wonder it’s one of their best sellers–it’s made with one third each jojoba, sweet almond and sunflower oil. This light and fast absorbing oil is as good for your hair as it is for your skin. Enriched with vitamin E and honeysuckle essential oil, this multipurpose oil is as decadent as it is hardworking.

The story of Smith Farms is interesting and compelling. The Smith Farm story begins with Julia.

“To be honest, it began the day during a walk in the woods at the farm. I had been thinking about my career and wondering if I could be doing something more fulfilling. What kept coming to mind, was an interest in creating skincare products, specifically natural ones, that would be safe and gentle and not irritate sensitive skin. Being a bit of a skincare enthusiast, I had recently been concerned with the long list of unrecognizable ingredients on the products I used every day. Inspired by my walk, I decided now was a good time to give it a try.”  Read more

Detangle Hair Easily: The Wet Brush Review

wb_front

Oh how I wish I had the wet brush when my daughter was little. My quality of my life could have been vastly improved not having to fight with her about brushing her hair and getting the tangles out. She actually used to the hide the brush! Finally her dad took over and that was better, but I still have nightmares about trying to get the knots out of her hair after bath time.

Sadly, my hair is not much better. I have very, very fine hair and it tangles easily. It really is a problem because if I use conditioner, it usually weighs my hair down and then it won’t hold a curl and I end up looking like a flat head. When I was asked to try the Wet Brush, I was VERY skeptical. I haven’t used a brush on my hair–much less WET hair in more years than I care to remember–it’s always been too scary.  I’ve been using this brush for a week on wet hair and it’s Read more
