Wrinkle Reducing Products

When we're young, we take our flawless skin for granted, never considering that what we do early on will affect us when we're older. We try to rush things, like wearing makeup (and always forgetting to take it off), skip things like sunscreen and make poor choices like smoking. Read more

Favorite Black Eyeliners

There's something that a black eyeliner conveys that brown or even brightly colored or metallic eyeliners can't duplicate. Black says bold, daring, classic, sexy. Coolway True Smooth Review

Coolway True Smooth #haircare #review

I don’t know about you, but Winter dried out my hair in the worst way. For the last few months I’ve had to deal with super staticy hair, not to mention frizz like I’ve never experienced before. Honestly, it was worse than getting hit with humidity in the summer. You, too? Then read on.

I recently discovered °Coolway True Smooth while browsing through beautystat.com‘s search and discovery platform while seeking help with my hair. (Beautystat.com is a great way to search your favorite brands to compare prices, find out-of-stock products and learn about the best steals, deals and giveaways.) Two things caught my attention right away – True Smooth promises shorter drying time and frizz-free hair. Read more

Spring Beauty Essentials Under $150

Spring Essentials Kit - 7 beauty products to bring you back to life! #beauty #rmnspringessentials

Keeping up with the season’s best beauty trends can be fun…but costly! (I much prefer the fun part over the expense of it all.) There’s also that Winter to Spring transition that requires a vast array of different products based on your individual needs – for example, my hair tends to lack shine this time of year and my skin looks lackluster (much like the landscape before the first flowers bloom.)

So how can you stay up to par with the Spring beauty essentials while keeping your bank account in check? Know when to spend and know when to splurge – and also know when to use coupon codes!

90% of my shopping is done online and beauty products are no exception. I first search my inbox to see if any of my favorite beauty retailers are having a sale or offering a discount. Next I head to RetailMeNot.com and type in the retailer I’m looking to purchase from. RetailMeNot will list discounts and sales for your favorite retailers – many times codes you can use in addition to the ones the retailers sent you! This is also a great way to weigh whether you should shop Sephora, Ulta, Beauty.com or your favorite department store retailer by doing a quick scan of any discount offerings. If you’re not one to shop online for cosmetics, no worries, RetailMeNot also has printable coupon codes.

When the weather begins to warm up one of the things that require a shake up is my skin care. I live in the mountains where the air is drier, as is my home from my wood stove. So Autumn through Winter my skin is like a nomad lost in the desert in search of something to quench its thirst. This is when I’m using heavier creams and serums targeted to dry skin. Oftentimes, no matter how much moisturizing I do, my skin remains parched and flakey. My hair seems to have the same issues as well. To brighten up for Spring, new skin care, hair care and cosmetics are in order!

As I move into Spring, here are my essentials – totaling under $150! Read more

Miss Jessie’s Multicultural Curls

Miss Jessie's Multicultural Curls #review

I consider my naturally curly hair both a gift and a curse.  When my hair decides to behave in its natural state, it is a huge mane of defined, bouncy curls that I positively revel in, but when my hair decides to act up, it become a pouf of frizz or a saddened state of lifeless curls that I cannot wait to get rid of.

Usually whenever my hair does act up, it is mostly due to the styling (products) I chose to use.  Either the product was too heavy and weighed my hair down or not hydrating enough and caused my curls to transform into a ball of frizz.  Rarely do I ever use just one product to style my curly hair. A couple to a few products are usually required to get those bouncy, shiny, hydrated curls that I always desire.  Read more

Surya Brasil Color Fixation Restorative Conditioner

Surya Brasil Color Fixation Restorative Hair Conditioner #review

I love experimenting with hair color, whether it be a one step color, Balayage or highlights, for me experimenting with my hair color is a lot less scary than trying a brand new haircut.  After all, if the color comes out terrible it can always be fixed without having to wait months or even a year for my hair to grow out.

For me the only negative of coloring my hair is the damage that hair color can do to the health of my hair.  Which is where a conditioner that is protecting, really moisturizing, nourishing and formulated specifically for color treated hair comes in very handy.  Surya Brasil Color Fixation Restorative Conditioner is amazing on my highlighted hair.  The Color Fixation Restorative Conditioner is a super thick and creamy intensive treatment that contains nourishing Amazonian botanicals and plant based proteins along with natural oils and nut butters that protect hair from sun damage while restoring strength and luster and replenishing natural shine. How to Choose the Right Hair Color #haircaretips #Haircare

If you’re anything like me, whether you’re searching for the right shade to color your hair at home or to request of your hairstylist at the salon, seeking the perfect hair color is a priority. (There was this one time when my hair wound up a weird shade of red….) But it goes beyond finding the right color by simply saying, “I like this shade of red.”

According to Patrick McIvor, expert hair colorist and Artistic and TechniCultural Director for Goldwell/KMS California, to find the perfect color, three factors must always be considered. Read more

Winter Hair Care Tips

Winter Hair Care Tips from Ruth Roche #haircare

In winter, colder temperatures and indoor heating deplete moisture in the air, which can leave hair parched, so it’s important to replenish moisture to prevent breakage and promote shine. Ruth Roche, Artistic Ambassador for Pureology Serious Colour Care offers 5 tips for getting the glow back.

1. Get a good trim to remove frayed ends, they tend to be dryer and more damaged than the rest of the hair strand.

2. Use a clarifying treatment to remove styling product buildup that contributes to lack of moisture and dullness. Pureology Purify Shampoo is a great one – it’s sulfate-free and safe for color-treated hair. Read more

Herbal Essences Naked Hair Care

Herbal Essences #GetNaked

I love a good dry shampoo. I love shiny hair. I also love volume. However, on any given day, those three things sometimes do not happen all at once. At least, not with a little help.

Everyone who knows me, knows that I do not wash my hair everyday. Dry shampoo has been a staple in my beauty routine since some expert hairstylists I met a few years back told me that shampooing every day was a definite no-no to achieve healthy hair and a healthy scalp. Some dry shampoos haven’t worked well for me, while others have achieved must-have status among my hair care products. Herbal Essences new Naked Dry Shampoo is on the must-have list. Read more
