Detangle Hair Easily: The Wet Brush Review

wb_front

Oh how I wish I had the wet brush when my daughter was little. My quality of my life could have been vastly improved not having to fight with her about brushing her hair and getting the tangles out. She actually used to the hide the brush! Finally her dad took over and that was better, but I still have nightmares about trying to get the knots out of her hair after bath time.

Sadly, my hair is not much better. I have very, very fine hair and it tangles easily. It really is a problem because if I use conditioner, it usually weighs my hair down and then it won’t hold a curl and I end up looking like a flat head. When I was asked to try the Wet Brush, I was VERY skeptical. I haven’t used a brush on my hair–much less WET hair in more years than I care to remember–it’s always been too scary.  I’ve been using this brush for a week on wet hair and it’s Read more

Best Ways to Spa at Home

I’d be lying if I said I could afford to go to the spa every few weeks. I simply can’t. Not with 4 boys who keep me super busy and a budget that doesn’t account for splurging. But I absolutely feel that spa time is super important if not only for your skin, but your mental and emotional well-being as well.

If you are anything like me and your finances and time don’t always agree with a trip to the spa, here are some simple ways to pamper yourself at home:

Light your favorite candles. There is nothing I love more than a house that smells so deliciously fragrant. Don’t use the ones that you light frequently, instead use candles that you set aside just for your spa time. My favorite candles are from NEST Fragrances. They are so unique (like Wasabi Pear and Moss & Mint) and smell luxurious. Turn off the lights and set them around your bathroom to make it even more relaxing.  Read more

How to Get a Better Hairstyle: Tips From Salon A.K.S

best-hairstylesMany of you can most likely relate to this scenario.  You have in your minds eye the perfect haircut or color that you think will look just absolutely amazing on you. You go into the salon and think that you do a pretty good job of explaining to your stylist what it is that you desire, but then you leave the salon feeling like somehow something got lost in translation because the cut or color you are leaving the salon with is not exactly what you had pictured.

So what happened? Did you not communicate clearly? Should you have brought in a better picture of what you wanted? Did your stylist think that what you wanted might not have been the best look for you? Maybe none of the above or maybe all three? Either way, this scenario is all too common and with spring and summer fast approaching, many of you much like myself, will be looking to update your ’do a little…or drastically.

In an effort to help our readers better communicate with their hairstylist so that they look and feel their absolute best this spring and summer, we reached out to the industry experts at Salon AKS in New York City for some of their tips on better communication between clients and their hairstylist. We hope this will also shed some light on what your hairstylist, (if they are a good hairstylist), should consider before cutting and coloring your hair.  Read more

Mane Message Hair Ties Review

I feel like I take the necessary steps needed to keep my hair in tip top shape.  I get regular trims, eat well and take my vitamins, get deep conditioning treatments, etc.  But imagine my surprise when it was brought to my attention that despite my good intentions towards my hair, the types of hair ties I use might be contributing to hair damage!

Some hair ties, depending on the types of material, can snag and cause breakage to strands of  hair which also results in split ends.  I have noticed that when I remove some of my hair ties a few strands of hair will accompany them, but I assumed this was a normal part of shedding. Needless to say, my hair ties had to be replaced immediately; which is how I ended up with the most gorgeous selection of hair ties by Mane MessageRead more

Change the Life of Your Hair: L’Oreal Paris Advanced Haircare Total Repair 5 Review

Even on days with the clearest of skies, a variety of aggressors − both environmental and lifestyle-related – impact the immediate and long-term health of hair. My hair has felt the impact first hand. From the time I decided to add bleach to my hair when I was 13, through all of the perms I had in the 80s and early 90s, to highlights, dyes and heated styling tools, my hair has seen it all…and suffered the consequences. At times it’s been brittle, I’ve had breakage along my hair line after dying it, it’s been dry and frizzy to overly moisturized and oily. Saying I’ve put my hair through the ringer really doesn’t do it justice. Yet, my hair is one of the most important aspects of my beauty routine; it’s my favorite accessory, if you will. And that got me thinking… Read more

DermOrganic Leave-In Spray Therapy Review

Could your hair use a little shine?

I put my hair through the ringer. I dye it, I blow dry it, I curl it, I flat iron it, sometimes I highlight it…all leading to loss of shine. My hair may look healthy, but I prefer my face to be matte and my hair, not so much.

I love DermOrganic and recently had the chance to try out their Leave-In Spray Therapy ($19.99). This hair treatment is for adding shine to your hair, as well as eliminating frizz. Despite it including Argan Oil, there was no greasy residue and it didn’t weigh my hair down. I tried this product both on my damp hair and when it was dry. I didn’t really notice a noticeable difference when it was applied wet, and the website says it improves drying time..if it did, it wasn’t apparent. When I applied it to my dry hair- WOW. The shine was crazy, ridiculously amazing. It looked completely natural and healthy. I’d say the frizz to my hair was decreased about 80%.  Read more

evo Water Killer Dry Shampoo Review

There’s a reason evo’s Water Killer Dry Shampoo is always sold out.

It’s that good.

It’s worth repeating that you should not wash your hair everyday. For some reason, when I tell people this I get a dumbfounded look. In order to keep your scalp healthy and not overproducing oil or drying out, you need to give it a break. Trust me, I have bangs. Bangs + an oily t-zone spell a bad hair day. On the days when I skip washing my hair, I always use a dry shampoo to not only absorb oil in the spots beginning to show greasiness, but to also give me some added volume.

I had the chance to try out evo Water Killer Dry Shampoo ($29.95) and realized why this is one hair care treatment that you want to quickly snatch up as soon as it is in stock.  Read more

Revlon Luxurious Colorsilk Buttercream Haircolor Review

I’ll be straight with you, I haven’t had the time in my schedule to cut my hair since September or October of last year. While I desperately need one, the one trick I know that makes people think that I did cut my hair, is to color it. Have you ever done this? I know I can’t be the only one!

Revlon had perfect timing with a Klout Perk I received to try out their new Luxurious Colorsilk Buttercream Haircolor. I choose 30N, which is dark brown. I’ve never used any of Revlon’s permanent haircolor’s, except for their Frost and Glow, which I didn’t really have a good experience with (more bleaching than actual highlighting.) But I have to say, their Luxurious Colorsilk Buttercream Haircolor has made me a fan.  Read more
