When Spry Living Magazine asked me if myself and two A Girl’s Gotta Spa! bloggers would be interested in making over our moms, we didn’t hesitate to say yes. Myself, Ashley and Hillary all participated in Spry Living’s Take Year’s Off Your Looks Instantly (web and print) story and Making Over Mom with tips.
Each of our moms had challenges that prevented them from updating their look. My mom had hair loss/thinning hair, sagging skin, etc. all related to bariatric surgery she had two years ago. One of my favorite things about the changing of the seasons is getting to play with new makeup shades and change up my lip routine. During the winter months I wear a ton of lip balm because I’m obsessed with keeping my lips moisturized. Most lipsticks dry out my lips and that never looks hot, but most lipsticks aren’t Laura Mercier’s Crème Smooth Lip Colour ($26). When the seasons start to change, I always find myself in a bit of a makeup rut – specifically when it comes to lip color. While it’s no secret that I’m a die-hard red lipstick fanatic, I like to go with something a bit lighter for early fall.
I’m not usually one for shimmery lipsticks, but Tigi’s Decadent Lipstick in Splendor totally threw me for a loop. An earthy, reddish-gold hue, it’s slightly darker than my normal color choice… but I am totally loving it. Decadent, indeed!
For a shade with significant shimmer, the color applied smoothly and lasted through a grande cup of coffee. As always, I still recommend a thorough lip exfoliation prior to application – all shimmery shades tend to get a bit clumpy towards the end of the day, and this one is no exception. Read more
