Finding makeup that contains sunscreen, but does not leave my skin looking gray and ashy, has always been a challenge for me. I’m sure it has been a challenge for a lot of women of color, too.
I love and want to take care of my skin by making sure that I wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with an spf of at least 20, but I also hate the feel of too much product sitting on my face (especially during the warmer months.) It can be difficult to find makeup that also provides broad spectrum sun protection without making me look like I’ve put baby powder on my face. Can you relate??? Read more
My lashes basically seem non-existent without mascara. They lack length and volume. I’ve tried so many mascaras in the pursuit of enviable lashes. Maybe you can relate..?
False lashes have also made their way onto my vanity, and while I adore the *POW* they give my lashes (and I swear they make me look younger – yes, please!), I have to be honest and say that I am no pro when it comes to applying them. Not only does it take some skill to apply the lashes in a way that looks natural, you then need a steady hand to apply your eye liner in a way that doesn’t look like you are trying to emulate that 70’s disco vibe with a thick line. (Am I right??) Read more
One part of our beauty routine that we tend to neglect quite often is ensuring that our makeup brushes are kept clean and bacteria free. Dirty makeup brushes can transfer old makeup, germs, and bacteria to your skin each time you use them, so it is important to regularly wash your brushes to get rid of buildup. As a bonus, washing your brushes also makes them work better as well. When it comes to cleaning my makeup brushes I will be the first to admit that I am absolutely clueless, so I decided to consult with an expert and consulted LA based Makeup Artist Lauren Snyder for her tips on cleaning and caring for makeup brushes.

Throughout history, women have always coveted longer, fuller lashes. Heck, it’s one of the reasons we’re all on the hunt for that holy grail mascara. Over the years, mascaras have gotten better at helping women fake incredible lashes and the fiber mascara trend is one of them.
I had the opportunity to test out cruelty free cosmetic brand, Physicians Formula, newest innovation – Eye Booster Instant Lash Extension Kit. The kit includes a mascara with a slightly curved brush and a separate bottle of fibers with a wand to apply them. Read more
The bareMinerals bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation appears to be a love it or hate it type of product. I’ve been using it as my only foundation for a few months now and there are some definite pros and cons. But are the cons enough to make me ditch it? I’m undecided until I see how it functions when my skin changes due to the elements of winter.
In total transparency, I have never used a foundation from bareMinerals before, so I can’t really compare this to the coverage their other foundations provide. However, since it is a liquid foundation, I’ve used plenty of those like LORAC’s POREfection Foundation and Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Foundation, so I know what I’m looking for in comparison. Disclosure: Swisspers provided me with complimentary Swisspers products and compensation for this post. The opinions I have shared about removing your makeup, using the products as well as the pictures, are my own.
Are you guilty of sleeping with your makeup on? Make it the one beauty tip you never forget.
I’ve been there myself, late night and you’re super tired. It’s not that big of a deal if I forget this one time to wash off my makeup, right? As we all know, that one time becomes many more times than we care to admit. Before you know it, you’re battling clogged pores, dry patches of skin and wrinkles rearing their ugly head. Your face is no longer a pretty sight. Just watch this video of Nikki Phillippi and you’ll know what I mean.
Swisspers, which is part of U.S. Cotton, is on a mission to get you to Sleep Naked by removing your makeup daily. Here’s why: Read more
Michelle Williams is back with her new album, Journey to Freedom (now available for pre-order.) Good Morning America dubbed it as a “personal journey,” however my personal opinion is that it is more of a spiritual journey. On the debut track, Say Yes, Queen Bey and Kelly Rowland are featured and I am so stoked for a Christian song to go mainstream.
Michelle looks AMAZING and that meant I needed all the details on what makeup was used for the video as well as the look the makeup artist wanted Michelle to evoke. Thanks to the Indian Tyler’s Beyond the Vanity show on LA Talk Live, I discovered celebrity makeup artist DeeDee Kelly who did Michelle’s makeup for the LA portion of the video filming. Read more

Spring’s hottest color in beauty, Radiant Orchid, is hands down one of my favorite beauty trends in YEARS. I’ve been wearing purple hues since I was first allowed to wear makeup (of course it wasn’t as chic back then and very 80’s.)
Below are my top ten for this season and I’d love to know if they are yours too! Read more
Your brows are an essential part to framing your face. Having the right tools is a necessity.
There are plenty of products out there – from brow gels to brow tints, to brow pens and brow markers and so on. What I’ve noticed lately is that there have been three brow products that I always seem to reach for.
NARS Brow Perfector ($22): This brow pencil has a velvety feel as you fill in where hair is sparse and shape where necessary. It blends perfectly, not making my brows too dark (I used Brown) and filling them out without looking “sharp” in their appearance. This pencil doesn’t budge once blended in. Read more
I love a simplified makeup routine. An eye-catching look is easy to achieve with Pantone’s color of the year, Radiant Orchid. Purple and pink hues are some of the most universally flattering eye shadow colors. But if you have brown or hazel eyes, you know that this color really can make your eyes pop.
For this look, I used only 6 products.
1. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
2. Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in Magnolia (PK302) on the lid. Read more
