EnvyDerm Lip Volumizing and Conditioning Plumper

As I get older I notice the collagen making a prompt exit from my lips leaving them looking lifeless and thin. The best way to combat thinning lips (or if you have thin lips to begin with) is to keep them hydrated and to use a lip plumper. When Read more

No3 Berry Face Oil Review

Can I use face oil if I have combination skin? Of course you can, simply avoid pore-clogging oils and use only the ones intended to moisturize your face. L.A. Christine's No3 Berry Face Oil is comprised of Lingonberry, raspberry and acai berry, yet smells of an herbally sweet concoction. High Read more

A Girl’s Gotta Spa! Featured in Spry Living Mom Makeover

Don’t forget to enter our Mom: Get Glamorous Contest (entries taken until May 24th!)
Join our Twitter Party on May 15th from 1pm-2pm EST #momglamorous

When Spry Living Magazine asked me if myself and two A Girl’s Gotta Spa! bloggers would be interested in making over our moms, we didn’t hesitate to say yes. Myself, Ashley and Hillary all participated in Spry Living’s Take Year’s Off Your Looks Instantly (web and print) story and Making Over Mom with tips.

Each of our moms had challenges that prevented them from updating their look. My mom had hair loss/thinning hair, sagging skin, etc. all related to bariatric surgery she had two years ago. Ashley’s mom has nerve damage and a disability when it comes to the use of her arm. Hillary’s mom was nervous since losing all of her hair so long ago (but it has since grown back.)

From skin care to hair care to makeup, here’s the breakdown of the products used to transformed our moms.

Eyeko Mascara Wardrobe Review

Eyeko Mascara Wardrobe 1

One of the first questions my best friend Sarah asks me when we see each other is always, “What kind of mascara are you using these days?” We bond over makeup and our lifelong quest for the perfect product … especially mascara. When I told her about the Eyeko Mascara Wardrobe, she was all ears. I love to see what other ladies are into, so every couple of weeks I browse the Best Sellers section on Sephora.com. That’s where I first saw Eyeko’s Mascara Wardrobe. ($28) If it’s a best seller, my assumption is there’s got to be a lot to love!

What’s really cool about this is that it comes with 1 mascara, but 3 different brushes … for 3 different eyelash looks. In this set, you get the three-in-one conditioning formula with Carbon Black finish. A super glossy black mascara formula that’s extra-thick. (That means you only need 2 coats!) You also get three brushes to define, curl, and volumize.  The brushes are interchangeable, but only 1 can live in the mascara. The other two have their own containers for storing. Read more

Spring Makeup Tips: Neutral Eyes, Cheeks with a Pop of Color

So now that spring has officially sprung and the snow is fading, I’m finally starting to leave my house! Whew! When I am just heading out to run errands I like to choose a look that is quick, easy, but spring pretty. It only comes around once a year so I had better take advantage while I can!

My easy face look is a BB Cream and my personal favorite right now is from SKIN79. I also need a concealer but if you’re lucky enough to not, then congratulations. I have been using my Maybelline Age Rewind under my eyes in the shade Brightener. For dark spots or blemishes I used my Sheer Cover Duo Concealer. Read more

Maybelline Volum’ Express the Rocket Mascara Review

vex-rocket-washable_pack-shot

So I tried another drugstore mascara even though I have at least five other open mascaras on my vanity. Obsessed much? This time it’s Maybelline Volum’ Express the Rocket Mascara–sounds impressive huh?

  • The packaging is impressive–you can’t miss the bright blue tube with the fuchsia writing and the ‘bullet’ shape.
  • The brush is impressive–a big rubber brush with varying lengths of bristles.
  • The way the brush exits the tube is impressive–you can hear the ‘pop’ that keeps all the extra gloppy (is that a word?) mascara in the tube and not on the brush.
  • The color is impressive–a REALLY deep carbon black
  • The  length it gives to lashes is impressive

Sounds awesome, right? The problem I experienced with Maybelline Volum’ Express The Rocket Mascara was Read more

Poll: Drugstore vs Department Store Mascara

Recently we began polling our Facebook fans and Twitter followers to find out which is better, drugstore or department store mascara. There’s the obvious difference in price, but does a higher price mean it’s a better product?

Personally, the majority of mascaras in my Mocha Moon Perez Beauty Case are department store. Does that mean I am pro-drugstore? No, it just means my budget doesn’t allow me to splurge too often.

We’d love to hear from you! Take our poll below and leave a comment letting us know which mascara brand you can’t live without.  Read more

Pur Minerals Big Blink Mascara Review

Big Blink is Pur Minerals newest mascara, which is fortified with Argan oil and has a clump free wand ($20). This wand is no ordinary wand, it’s magical. It combs smoothly through the lashes and coats evenly. The wand even gets into those hard to reach corners without making a mess (or poking you in the eye.)  Read more

Clinique High Impact Extreme Waterproof Mascara Review

We all want lashes that make a high impact statement. Like, how did she get lashes like that? Or even better, I WANT lashes like that!

While I may have decent lashes, something I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older is that my lashes are getting lighter in color. I have no idea why this is…and if you know, please enlighten me. So it is an absolute must-have, whether I have on a full face of makeup or not, mascara MUST be worn.  Read more

Review: bareMinerals Remix January 2013 Collection

BareMinerals launches the new Remix Collection this month and to me it has a very 80′s vibe. That could be due to the blues in The Wild Thing eye shadow quad or the new Aqua Blast mascara! Oh goodness I remember blue mascara but not in a good way so I was quite skeptical at this turquoise looking tube. The entire collection 11-pc. collection is presented in limited edition aqua metallic packaging.  Read more

Eyeko Skinny Mini Duo Review

Last spring I tried the strange and amazing Eyeko Skinny Brush Mascara with pretty great results I might add. Originally launched in the UK, Eyeko Mascaras have crossed the pond and taken up residence in Sephora stores all across the country, at Sephora inside JCPenney’s and at Sephora.com. Now beauty industry veterans Max and Nina Leykind have created an über easy to use precision eyeliner too. Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner Black hit stores in August of this year.

As if that wasn’t enough good news, Eyeko has created the Skinny Mini Duo ($16), a mini Skinny Brush Mascara and a Skinny Mini Liquid Eyeliner in black.  This is a perfect set to keep in your makeup bag for touch-ups, as a stocking stuffer or for travel.  Read more
