LATHER Go Coconuts Body Scrub and Body Whip Review

There is nothing I love more in the summer (or for a mid-winter wake up) than the scent of coconuts. The fragrance makes me nostalgic of my childhood spent on the beaches of Rhode Island--from Prudence Island to Narraganset and Portsmouth, the scent of coconut-scented sunscreen filled the air. Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen Review

Life after Melanoma for me has been an interesting balance of educating myself and others about the dangers of the sun and skin cancer awareness ... and finding ways to enjoy my time in the sun without being totally paranoid. Part of that mission has included trying every sunscreen Read more

Top 10 Beauty Products for Summer

  1. Sunscreen with SPF (this one is obvious!): We currently love Sun Bum Continuous Spray, MD Solar Sciences Mineral Creme and these 3 sunscreens for summer.
  2. UPF Clothing: Your clothes only give you a UPF of 5, so UPF clothing is a necessity! We love Mott 50!
  3. Charcoal Scrub: Sweat and grime will clog up pores, so using a facial scrub with charcoal (the sulfur banishes blemishes) is a must!
  4. Hair Mask: Salt water and chlorine will rob your hair of moisture, so a good replenishing hair mask is in order! We love L’Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm,  Salon Graphix Intensive Hair Repair Masque, and Gail’s DIY Homemade Deep Conditioning Mask.
  5. Bright Nail Polish: Cheerful colors are what summer is made of. We love Impala Palmeira Tropical and Essie Off the Shoulder (I love it as a hot pink French Manicure). Read more

Avon Viva by Fergie Perfume Review

Avon launched it’s the third fragrance by the famous pop star Fergie, named Viva by Fergie last spring.  The new fragrance is advertised as fearless and daring with the slogan “Live by Your Own Rules.”

“Viva is a fresh and unexpected fragrance that brings out the duality of a woman. Powerful, yet seductive, and living life by her own rules,” described Fergie.

The composition is fresh and floral, blended out of cooling herbs, fierce lavender and intriguing vetiver. The green opening is fresh and crisp without any fruity or citrus accords. Most fragrances use citrus to get that briskness but Viva relies on green herbals to bring it.  Read more

Atmysphere Fragrance for Men Review

I love when my boyfriend wears cologne and thankfully he always wears scents that are pleasing to the senses. (Unlike memories of high school and the boys who would literally bathe themselves in cologne. Sometimes I wondered if they would douse themselves in it in lieu of a shower. But I digress…)

I don’t typically review men’s fragrance or grooming products here anymore, however I couldn’t pass up Atmysphere, which promises that it would create an intimate romantic atmosphere via the fragrance. It sounded much like those perfumes that claimed to have pheromones in them that would create attraction, however their website is very clear that there are no pheromones in this men’s fragrance. Curious, I informed my boyfriend that he was going to be a test subject. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind an intimate romantic atmosphere anyway…I mean what guy passes that up?  Read more

Lisa Hoffman Fragrance Earrings Review

If you are looking for a unique way to wear your perfume, or even a unique gift idea, then you’ll definitely want to take a look at Lisa Hoffman Beauty’s fragrance jewelry.

I’ve owned Lisa Hoffman Beauty products such as when her Spa Hand and Foot Butter were available, and her Madagascar Orchid Candle (this was heavenly and I wish she still sold them!) Amanda recently reviewed her Tuscan Fig Eau de Parfum, as well. Next on the list was her coveted fragrance jewelry, of which I tried the Madagascar Orchid Earrings (which of course smell just as divine as the candle did.)  Read more

The Perfect Holiday Scent: Demeter Fragrances

With the holidays wrapping up in just a few days, I’ve found myself scrambling to cram in as much Christmas cheer as possible, whether it’s blasting Santa, Baby or wrapping up gifts for those I didn’t get to see over the holidays. And now to my complete and utter delight, I can work a little Christmas into my beauty regimen, too.

Demeter  has always been one of my go-to sites to scout scents because of their amazing selection of one-note fragrances…and I was psyched to discover they have 2 scents that capture the absolute essence of Christmas – Egg Nog and Christmas Tree.

Egg Nog is a deliciously sweet scent that I now habitually spray at my desk for an instant pick-me-up and a smile. Its creamy, vanilla-nutmeg aroma  will make you immediately want to curl up in your softest sweater with a hot cup of cocoa.

Christmas Tree leaves nothing to the imagination. One spritz of this transported me to Christmas Tree hunting with my dad as a child – the fresh scent of fir is inarguably delicious. Because the scent is quite strong, it’s not something I prefer to wear as a personal fragrance, but I’ve been spritzing it all over my apartment  throughout December. It’s almost as good as a real tree!  Read more

Halle Berry Closer Perfume Review

Just this last September, Halle Berry launched her fifth fragrance, Closer. Closer was developed by perfumer Jacques Cavallier; the notes include raspberry, water lily, ozone, fougère accord, violet, mimosa, cedar, vanilla bean, mahogany and cashmere musk.

From Coty:  Closer “is a rare blend of feminine and masculine notes, creating an intriguing scent that is as alluring for men as it is for women.”

What Halle has to say: “Scent is very closely linked with desire and attraction and I love the idea that a fragrance can bring a man and a woman together. Closer creates a new level of intimacy through the power of scent.”   Read more

Lisa Hoffman Tuscan Fig Eau de Parfum Review

I’m not necessarily one for a “signature” scent. There are certain notes I look for in fragrances, but I’m not married to any bottle or brand…mostly because I wouldn’t want to miss out on  super-decadent fragrances like Lisa Hoffman’s Tuscan Fig, that might otherwise go under the radar.

The eau de parfum is a decadent combination of vanilla, coconut wood, gardenia, and honeysuckle.  Though rather sweet, I found Tuscan Fig is a delicious, long-lasting fragrance that immediately put me in a happy place. For me, warm vanillas and woody notes have something very fall about them: one sniff has me dreaming of curling up next to a fire with warm apple cider and a book. I have a very strong feeling this scent will transition into autumn nicely.   Read more
