Verb Detangle+Defrizz Conditioning Leave-In Mist Review

To be completely up front about things, I hate washing my hair because it's a nightmare to comb afterwards.  It’s much like that of a 6 year old little girl. It tangles like nobody’s business and is a nightmare to comb after washing. It’s so bad that my hairdresser Read more

Delfin Spa Cellulite Reduction Apparel and Anti-Cellulite Lotion Review

A Girl’s Gotta Spa! Featured in Spry Living Mom Makeover

Don’t forget to enter our Mom: Get Glamorous Contest (entries taken until May 24th!)
Join our Twitter Party on May 15th from 1pm-2pm EST #momglamorous

When Spry Living Magazine asked me if myself and two A Girl’s Gotta Spa! bloggers would be interested in making over our moms, we didn’t hesitate to say yes. Myself, Ashley and Hillary all participated in Spry Living’s Take Year’s Off Your Looks Instantly (web and print) story and Making Over Mom with tips.

Each of our moms had challenges that prevented them from updating their look. My mom had hair loss/thinning hair, sagging skin, etc. all related to bariatric surgery she had two years ago. Ashley’s mom has nerve damage and a disability when it comes to the use of her arm. Hillary’s mom was nervous since losing all of her hair so long ago (but it has since grown back.)

From skin care to hair care to makeup, here’s the breakdown of the products used to transformed our moms.

Avene Cleansing Foam and Mattifying Fluid Reviews

avene reviews

I have combination skin. It’s more combination in the winter months, but Spring, Summer and Fall, it is full blown oily. I’ve never really been able to get a handle on it, but I am always up for trying products that are meant to mattify my shiny skin. Read more

At Home Spa Treatments for Thrifty Shoppers

This is a post from Carleen at the beauty blog Beauty and Fashion Tech and the international fashion blog Just For Trendy Girls, which Carleen just acquired.

Everyone loves a trip to the spa, and med spas offer a variety of great, but expensive, anti-aging treatments. So, while these coveted mini-vacations are perfect for pampering oneself and for feeding the mind, body and soul, they are not cheap. Luckily, there are a number of great at-home products that can be used for pampering and anti-aging purposes.

10 Tips for Stunning Summer Skin

summer skin care tipsThe summer can be both your skin’s best friend and worst enemy. Although it feels great, the sun may be doing a lot more damage than you realize. By adjusting your skincare for the season - choosing the right skincare products and regimes - you can ensure this summer leaves you with glowing, soft and clear skin, as well as avoiding any long-term wear and tear.

Sunscreen

1.      Finding a sunscreen with vitamins, minerals or anti-oxidants will ensure your skin is well nourished.

2.      Failing that, using an antioxidant serum underneath sunscreen acts as an extra protective layer – we recommend looking out for those containing white tea.

3.      Don’t put everything on the SPF number, the actual difference from SPF 15 onwards is not as large as you’d expect; the most important thing is to apply sunscreen at regular intervals, particularly if you’re keeping busy or taking a dip. Don’t be fooled into thinking that a high SPF is going to keep you covered all day.  Read more

HARNN Asian Inspired Home Spa Products Review

HARNN Asian-Inspired SpaFrom the packaging to the botanical fragrance, HARNN’s Asian inspired home spa products deliver an experience you’ll remember.  HARNN is best known for focusing on the balance of body, mind, and environment through the use of natural botanical extracts with inspirations from traditional herbal medicine. HARNN boasts a handful of incredible collections and just welcomed a new member to the HARNN family … the Oriental Rose Collection.  The Oriental Rose Collection is an antioxidant rich collection that really compliments the existing lines.  I couldn’t wait to open the beautiful packaging when it first arrived.

The Oriental Rose Skin Purifying Body Scrub  is a rich body scrub with all natural extracts from Certified Organic Rose Water, Apricot Seed, Shea Butter and Coenzyme Q10 to help replenish moisture, improve skin condition, and promote natural smoothness. I followed that up with the Oriental Rose Body Balm- a specially formulated body balm that truly absorbs almost instantly. The body balm also contains one of my favorite skin care musts, Certified Organic Rose Water! The Oriental Rose Collection is rejuvenating for both your body and your mind. The scent really did clear my over-worked, usually stressed out mind. Talk about aromatherapy! I was starting to see why HARNN prides itself on focusing on the balance of mind and body.

The neurotic moisturizer I am,  I carried around HARNN’s Jasmine and Pomegranate hand cream until it was all gone. The first time I used it I kind of felt like I was in a dramatic television commercial because I literally closed my eyes and took it all in. I’m pretty sure, even though I was alone, I was smiling.  Read more

Melvita Fresh Eye Contour Gel Review

Melvita

One of the newest additions to the Melvita Nectar de Roses Collection is Fresh Eye Contour Gel ($35).  This fresh, light, fragrance-free gel helps diminish puffiness and dark circles around the eyes.  It combines all the freshness and moisturizing benefits of mountain roses with the draining and decongesting properties of cornflower water to reduce puffiness. Red seaweed extract, rich in polysaccharides and vitamins A and B12, invigorates and improves blood flow, to boost microcirculation and reduce the blue undertones of dark circles.

Dark circles are not a problem for me, but puffiness certainly is. I’ve tried a lot of products but with this gel I immediately felt my under eye tighten.  In the past if I felt a tightening, I also experienced flaking when the product dried–this is NOT true of the Fresh Eye Contour Gel at all. It is very lightweight, soothing and adds a fresh feeling to the eyes. It does not interfere with concealer or foundation. Read more

Talika Skin Retouch Review

2013-03-23 01.22.24 (360x480) Talika products are often problem solvers and I love them for that. Talika Skin Retouch is one such product. Combining technology with skincare, Skin Retouch is actually derived from photo retouching techniques, just like using Photoshop on your photos to make your face looks flawless.

From the website:

Over time, the face loses its smoothness. The skin does not reflect light evenly anymore. The skin starts to look dull, tired, and greyish. SkinRetouch Face® acts as an instant corrector of time by playing smartly with light. The skin looks immediately younger.   Claims: Blurs fine lines and wrinkles, Unifies and mattifies complexion, and Tightens pores.

Good news, this is one of the best primers I’ve tried, especially for oily skin—which I don’t have but it still worked for me, another plus. It does fill in fine lines and pores, keep foundation fresh and diffuses light. I try a LOT of skin care and have been using a pretty rich moisturizer causing some shine breakthrough in my T-zone. Talika Skin Retouch keeps the oilies at bay. Give it a few minutes to fully “set” before applying makeup. Read more

Willa Born to Glow Daily Tinted Shimmer Body Lotion Review

born-to-glow-natural-spf-15-daily-shimmer-body-lotion

Willa Born to Glow Daily Tinted Shimmer Body Lotion hydrates skin and evens skin tone with natural SPF 15 coverage. Formulated to dry fast, the natural sunscreen keeps your skin protected and doesn’t feel greasy. Vitamin E acetate moisturizes and fends off free radical damage to diminish the impact of environmental aggressors to keep your skin young and healthy. This is NOT a bronzer so you won’t look like you have a fake tan.

Admittedly this product does contain a bit of shimmer, but it’s not overwhelming. That said, at my age I would wear not this in the daytime. It would be perfect for a late summer afternoon at a pool party or backyard BBQ. It’s light enough for the hot humid weather and has an SPF of 15 so you’ll have some protection (I do recommend SPF 30). Apply to the collarbone, shoulders and décollete for a bit of sparkle.  Read more

Dr. Lewinn by Kinerase Instant Perfecting BB Cream Review

Dr. Lewinn by Kinerase Instant Perfecting BB Cream

Have you jumped on board the BB Cream trend yet? I’ve been trying all of the latest BB’s to hit shelves and I’d love to introduce you to Dr. Lewinn by Kinerase Instant Perfecting BB Cream SPF 15.

As a melanoma survivor, I’m obsessed with products that are at least SPF 15 and making sure my skin is always protected from the sun, and that includes my face, even under makeup.  This BB Cream is more like an all-in-one balm  that not only delivers on the promise of hydrating and protecting your skin, but also leaves a really nice tint finish, evens complexion, and makes spots less visible.

I don’t know about you, but I like to give my face a break from makeup on the weekends. While on a daily basis my beauty routine begins with BB Cream, followed by some mineral powder foundation, on the weekends I like to let me skin breathe. At the same time, I don’t want to look like an extra on The Walking Dead while running errands. Dr. Lewinn by Kinerase Instant Perfecting BB Cream was the perfect “little something” to throw on before running to the grocery store to even out my skin, get a little tint, and protect my skin from the sun.  Read more
