I’ve always considered myself lucky when it comes to my skin. Sure I’ve had the occasional pimple or was inconvenienced by random dry skin or oily skin a times, but it was never out of control or got to the point where it was a stressor for me.
I wish I would have appreciated what I had at the time because for the past year I have been battling with constant acne…the kind that leaves scars, skin that goes from extremely dry to severely oily and a dull complexion. I have tried facials, soothing and calming face products, diet change, water filters…you name it, I’ve tried it and while some of these attempts at a solution would briefly work or would take care of one of my skin issues, it would exacerbate the rest. Not one of these “fixes” ever got my skin back to the state that it was in prior to this past year, so I’ve been learning to live with (but not accept) the new condition of my skin. This just means that I’m still trying different means of getting my skin under control. Read more
It may sound silly, but even though I don’t drink, those Corona commercials snag my attention every time. Sounds of the ocean, the sense of relaxation and the refreshing lime placed perfectly in the bottle neck. It’s that lime that calls out to me saying, “Let me quench your thirst.” Read more
I’m all over the place when it comes to skin care. I’ve been brand loyal with my daily moisturizer since I was 12, (my mom’s favorite is still my favorite,) but when it comes to face wash, I can safely say I’ve tried every product on the shelf at least once. After years of experimenting with pretty much every face cleanser under the sun, I can safely say Garnier’s new Clean + Balancing Daily Exfoliator was the most pleasant morning pick me up (besides coffee) I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
There’s lots of exciting stuff coming from Garnier for Spring 2014. I think they are trying to target a young buyer with their new collection and I’m all about it. The new Garnier Clean + Skincare Collection is available with newly launched cleansers, a new moisturizer and a facial primer. Read more
Proper skin care is not something that you only teach your daughter or the female in your life, but is something I feel boys need to learn, as well.
Of course, I’m biased having four sons and all.
Yet, we know it’s true. Where are the ads on TV or in magazines marketing exfoliators, moisturizers, serums and sunscreen to men? (With the exception of acne products like Proactiv, of course.) When have you ever seen teen boys incorporated in skin care commercials? You simply don’t. So how does a young man know how to treat blemishes, or how to exfoliate his face or know the right products for his skin type?
Moms: It begins with you. Read more
Combination skin friends rejoice! I’ve discovered an amazing moisturizer that gives your skin the moisture it needs while keeping your skin looking matte.
Olay Fresh Effects Dew Over Hydrating Gel is an oil-free moisturizer that is lightweight. It’s also formulated with a powder that comes to the aid of that oily t-zone and reduces the shine without reducing the hydration needed to keep skin balanced. Since most of us with combination/oily skin tend to be acne prone, this hydrating gel doesn’t clog pores. Read more
Whenever I have any type of a skin concern I can always count on my friends for advice. Advice, that sometimes can be great, sometimes not so good and a lot of times just plain weird. The last bit of skin care advice I received from my best friend was actually one of the great ones and one that I have been practicing weekly.
My best friend Sam mentioned that her mom uses lemongrass whenever she steams her face for skin that’s clear, toned, glowing and looks almost poreless. Apparently her mom has been doing this for years and it is something that was passed down from the other women in her family in her native Cambodia. Lemongrass is an anti-microbial and anti-bacterial herb. This means it will help limit bacterial or microbial growth on the skin. It can help ward off skin infections as well as lessen skin issues caused by bacterial infections. Read more
I’ll just begin this beauty review by saying this is one of the most amazing skincare products I have ever used. I could probably just stop there, but I’ll go ahead and tell you why I am now an absolute fanatic when it comes to the Dr. Dennis Gross Extra Strength Alpha Beta Peel and Ferulic Acid + Retinol Brightening Solution. For the majority of my life, even in my teenage years, I never had an issue with acne. I would of course get the occasional pimple, but I’ve never had to wear any type of a concealer or foundation unless it was for a photoshoot. Read more
Although some individuals experience acne and manage to successfully treat it with various lotions and potions, for the majority of the general public, the everyday off-the-shelf, and sometimes even prescribed treatments, simply won’t do the job. Many of those who struggle with acne also struggle to feel confident to show off their natural skin due to acne scarring.
Acne isn’t just delegated to the face, but can also appear on your chest and back. Furthermore, the effects of the acne can vary from whiteheads to blackheads, pustules to milia and cysts, each with their own unique skin treatment. Keeping a regular and thorough skin care routine can help those who suffer from acne-prone skin. Daily cleansing of the skin both day and night, as well as, removing makeup before bed are vitally important. Exfoliation is another key element to your skin and body care routine that should not be forgotten. Exfoliating 1-2 times per week will help keep pore-clogging debris at bay. Read more
Blackheads. Simply put – they are the bane of our existence.
Our teen years are when our pores become defined, which is dependent on using the right skin care products and using them consistently. How we take care of our face during our teen years determines how large or small our pores will be (mainly just how much they’ll hold tightly to dirt and debris as we age), but yet it is during these same years that we seem to lack the knowledge (and motivation) to implement a preventative beauty routine that will save us the grief from our older selves. Oh Marty McFly, why can’t time machines be real?!
Since I can’t turn back time, all I can do now is learn how to properly extract and remove blackheads, and try to minimize just how often those little skin pockets fill up with gunk. If you are younger and reading this, take heed now and do yourself a favor: keep your skin well-maintained.
There are a few ways to remove blackheads: Read more
That sour little fruit has a lot of amazing skin care benefits. Bright and colorful, lemons will do wonders if you are prone to blemishes, is great to detox and is refreshing and brightening to your skin.
The thing is, I hadn’t really known all of the benefits (with the exception of lightening my hair in the summer) until I made the switch from pre-flavored water to spring water with fresh lemon in it back when I was on a diet program. While doing NutriSystem, it was suggested to me that my favorite Pure Life flavored water may be preventing my weight loss (preservatives, etc.) It was recommended that I opt for regular spring water and add fresh, sliced lemons to it. I’ve always drank a lot of water, with my only downfall being 2 cups of ice coffee in the morning, but never added fresh fruit simply due to the wait time for it to diffuse. (I am a want-it-now kind of girl.) Read more
