Men’s Grooming Review: Shaving Creams for a Close, Kissable Shave

male-groomingIn my last men’s grooming review, I noted that I love my Clarisonic for shaving and noted how I travel with it everywhere, even though it is not really travel size (and I leave the charger at home, because it’s heavy and I could kill somebody with its heft.)

There’s something about the traditional shaving brush and cream that takes you back to childhood. It’s learning how to shave when you’re five years old with your Dad, who had his brush and used some generic shaving cream. It worked and worked well. And that’s how I learned: with my fake little kit of a plastic razor blade, using my dad’s brush and shaving cream.

And, it gets a better shave. Using a brush – or, well, now a Clarisonic – gets the hair to stand up, be softer, and avoids ingrown hairs. It’s just a better system. Plus, I hate shaving and have a terrible beard, so what’s a better way to test this all out than getting samples and finding the best solution for me?

To make this a fair test, I used each shaving cream for a day, under similar test environments: new blade, hot water, charged Clarisonic, local water source (hey, that matters for hard versus soft water). The below list is in order of preference, with one recommendation for those that don’t use a brush or Clarisonic – although, in reality, the top five are almost interchangeable.  Read more

Review: Sally Hansen HD Hi-Definition Nail Color Collection

sally-hansen-hd-nail-polish

Having lived my teen years in the 90′s, I can absolutely get into the colors of Sally Hansen’s new HD Hi-Definition Nail Color collection. Bright pops of color and neon bring me back to that girl I used to be…the one who was all about boys (still am), New Kids on the Block and jelly bracelets (and if you saw me today, you would see a neon green jelly bracelet on my wrist always!)

I first decided to try out Pixel, which is a teal color. And thanks to Suzy who is a fan on A Girl’s Gotta Spa! on Facebook, I went into this review thinking about the questions she posed to me there– Read more

Keep Your Skin Soft During Summer with a Body Polish

bodyscrub The summer months can be harsh on your skin with all of the sea, sun and sand. Not to mention the extra showers during the humid warm days as you try to cool off. Treat your skin and your senses to a luxurious body scrub. Look for a scrub with a scent that appeals to your nose and your budget. Slather on the scrub no more than 1-2 times a week. If you have typically dry skin look for a scrub that has added moisturizers or if you are looking for an aromatherapy experience choose a fragrance that has either a calming or invigorating sensation. There are also specialized scrubs for various parts of the body including the face, feet and lips. Be sure to follow up your body scrub with an intensive moisturizer to soften the skin.  Read more
