LATHER Go Coconuts Body Scrub and Body Whip Review

There is nothing I love more in the summer (or for a mid-winter wake up) than the scent of coconuts. The fragrance makes me nostalgic of my childhood spent on the beaches of Rhode Island--from Prudence Island to Narraganset and Portsmouth, the scent of coconut-scented sunscreen filled the air. Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen Review

Life after Melanoma for me has been an interesting balance of educating myself and others about the dangers of the sun and skin cancer awareness ... and finding ways to enjoy my time in the sun without being totally paranoid. Part of that mission has included trying every sunscreen Read more

MAC’s Mouthing Off Sandra Bernhard ad

I am so disappointed in MAC.

I really didn’t pay much attention when I heard that Sandra Bernhard made an internet advertisement for them, because honestly? I don’t like her. However, when I was watching a news channel, they played the ad and I almost fell over. The part that got my attention?

“little freaked out, intimidated, frightened, right-wing Republican thin-lipped bitch.”

What? Is MAC trying to tell me that their newest product, PlushGlass, isn’t for someone like me?

“Little freaked out..” Sometimes, but when you are a mom, when are you not freaked out by something?

“Intimidated…” Sometimes, by people with a crass attitude and a big mouth.

“Frightened…” Of not ever having enough lipgloss…

“Right-wing Republican thin-lipped bitch…” I assume when she says “right-wing” she is basically saying “Conservative Christian,” which, yes, that is very much me.
Republican, yes again (but it doesn’t mean you always agree with the party– please don’t send hate mail).
Thin-lipped
…well I do wish my lips were a little plumper.
Bitch
according to my husband I can be that too.

I take great offense to that ad and honestly, I absolutely believe it was intentional. Mainly to cause a buzz to get everyone talking about the ad, which then leads more people to look at their website, which then makes non-”little freaked out, intimiated, frightened, right-wing Republican thin-lipped bitch” women to want to laugh and high five MAC and buy more of their products and so on. Ok, not all, but I’m sure there are some. Don’t get me wrong, there are fantatics on both ends of the political wire, so I don’t want to sound like I am knocking my Democratic friends.

Do I think they meant what they said? Probably not, it is all a marketing strategy. All a way to create a buzz.

Still, I am so disappointed that a brand as great as MAC would sink so low.

More Lipglosses to gush about: Urban Apothecary

Normally when I spotlight an advertiser, you would just see a small blurb and a link to their website. However, my latest BlogAds advertiser, Urban Apothecary, really caught my eye.

Can you guess which part of their website I headed to first?

Lipgloss!

I was completely engrossed in their website as I sat and made birthday wishes on a few lip products.
First, a product called Swizzle Stick. It’s a lipliner and gloss in one. Beautiful packaging, fabulous colors to choose from and packed with coconut, papaya and sugar cane extracts, this gloss is sure to send you off to an island far far away. On my birthday list: Check!

Next is Rock Star, a wonderful dual use gloss. One end is packed with crushed crystal powder, the other end with gloss. You can add the powders wet or dry for a fabulous shine. The website even says you can apply the powder to eyes and cheeks, as well. On my birthday list: Check!
I have a hard time deciding between Lip Whip and Sorbet Lip Gel. The Lip Whip has shine with just a hint of color, while the Sorbet Lip Gel is vitamin enriched with fruit extract, and is sheer with shine.

Don’t worry…if you not as fanatical about lipgloss as I am, Urban Apothecary also has some fantastic mineral makeup and skincare.

Makeup Palettes

I don’t know about you, but I am lazy.

As a mom, most times I don’t have time to sift through my huge collection of colors to decide which ones to mix and match and which lipgloss or lipstick would make the perfect combination. I just need to slap it on and run before someone is tugging at my leg (most times while applying mascara or eyeliner) and demanding my attention. Therefore, I am lazy because I want someone to choose my colors for me.

Thank goodness that the cosmetic industry understands people like me and have created palettes. There are many people out there who don’t like palettes, but let me tell you why I do.

For one, someone does the work of choosing creative color combinations for me. Oh this eyeshadow looks good with this gloss? Great! These shadows look great with this base? Fantastic! This really makes for more quality time in applying makeup, rather than it being a race to finish before being interrupted.

I also love that I can take my palette with me when heading out for the day (or night if I am lucky). No need to pack separate powders, lipsticks, etc. It’s all in one easy to carry case. Makes life easy, no?

One palette that caught my eye is by Pop Beauty. They make eye shadow palettes based on your eye color. I have hazel eyes, so Pop Beauty Eye Class for Green Eyes is perfect. I also love their Naturally Popette palette, which includes colors for eyes, lips and cheeks.

Hard Candy has an ultra cute makeup palette that opens to resemble a makeup train. It’s a tri-level makeup palette with eyeliners, blushes, shawdows, glosses, mini mascara and makeup applicators. (They can fit ALL of that into a palette?!)

And I’ve been looking at the new palette by Benefit called The Weather Girl. My forecast? A positively radiant face.

What’s your take on palettes? Do you have a favorite one?

Bobbi Brown Creamy Color Gloss, Lancome Juicy Tubes (my lipgloss addiction)

I am a complete lipgloss junkie. I have an unstoppable addiction to shiny perfectly colored lips. Sometimes I think I need an intervention.

Here are some products I have a lemming for:

Benefit’s V.I.P. Her Glossiness
I love the colors they have to choose from and I hear that the shine is spectacular!

Benefit’s Big Magic
How can you go wrong buying lipgloss when you’d be helping out a great cause? I once considered becoming a Big Sister, and I had many client’s who’ve had a Big Brother/Sister and it did a world of good for them.

Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Color Gloss

Just the name, Bobbi Brown, is enough to turn heads and make you sit up straight and pay attention.

Shiseido’s Maquillage Diamond Tear Gloss

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend after all.

Lancome Juicy Tubes Ultra Shiny Lip Gloss Berlingot

Did someone say Lancome? Did someone say “Ultra Shiny?”

Lancome Juicy Tubes Ultra Shiny Lip Gloss Berlingot

All I know is that this girl will be turning 32 on August 21st and I believe that gives me great cause to celebrate with the purchase of a lipgloss (or two or three and maybe four).

What lip products do you have a lemming for?
