Pardon the interruption!

Holy smokes! So my site was down for 4 days! Eep! Please forgive the lack of images and sidebar messiness while I reconfigure everything. We had hosting issues and they basically messed up the whole blog to the degree that we had to change hosting services–and now everything isn’t uploaded right, so we’ll be fixing that throughout Sunday.

Have patience and I’m glad to be back! Thank you Leslie at Catapult Web Development! xo

Floyd’s 99 Barbershop Offers a Little Bit of Rock n’ Roll

Floyd’s 99 Barbershop is a Rock n’ Roll inspired shop, offering old school service with new school appeal in an entertaining atmosphere. It serves up traditional hair cuts and styling,  specialty barbering (face and head shaves) and color services for both men and women. Floyd’s 99 employs professional stylists and barbers who are also trained to provide high-quality customer service — all at a great price. While customers are getting a haircut, color or shave, they can watch one of the plasma TVs, hang out at the internet stations or sit back and take in the music while surrounded by posters of hot bands and music artists.

Rob O’Brien, one of the three founding brothers, said of the barbershop’s interior, “Floyd’s 99 Barbershop is inspired by Rock n’ Roll- it’s a blending old-school barbershop charm with a modern, rock and technology vibe.”

This place looks FUN. Sometimes you go to the salon to relax, but other times I think it would be a great mood booster to walk into a place like this. Floyd’s 99 Barbershop has several locations nationally, head to their website to find out if there is one near you.

Review: Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick

When I was a teenager I used to long to be older just so my skin could stop being in overdrive. I constantly have blemishes in my T-zone and many more at my chin (with the battle scars to prove it). So it’s disappointing to be just shy of turning 34 and still have to deal with several blemishes invading my face on a continual basis. I decided to give Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick a try to see if it would make any difference in the length of time a pimple would stick around.

The scent of the Herbal Blemish Stick is very much like black licorice. While yummy if it is candy, not really what I want to smell on my face. It’s a pretty strong fragrance too. The Herbal Blemish stick is meant to be used 2-3 times a day and contains botanicals, especially tea tree oil, which is supposed to work wonders on blemishes. I found that this product stung a bit when I applied it and even using it 3 times a day, despite all of the wonderful oils and herbal goodness, dried the skin out in the area that I applied it.

I didn’t notice any difference in inflammation decreasing or clearing up my skin. So the daily applications, stinging, strong scent and dried out skin left me very disappointed. And I really wanted to like this product because it is conveniently in a rollerball applicator tube and something I can easily carry in my handbag to use when necessary. So my search continues for the perfect blemish remedy.

Soapylove: When you Need a Good Soapsicle

One of the great benefits of being on Twitter is coming across followers of your friends. Last night I came across Soapylove, and yes my friends, it was love at first Soapsicle. A true lover of glycerin soap, I marveled that soap could be molded to resemble a tasty summertime treat. Soapylove’s Soapsicles are a true work of art.

Not only is this a non-fat moisturizing bath time treat, if you have kids like my 4 rugrats, can you imagine the begging that will go on just to take a shower? Whether you have kids or not, I not only think this is a fun soap to hang around your bath tub, but also to display in your bathroom. Why not become the talk of all of your friends for having such a unique soap for them to wash their hands with?

Soapylove Soapsicles can be purchased via their website at $8 for a 3oz. soapsicle, as well as other fine retailers listed on their site (one is only 30 minutes from me at Great Wolf Lodge–who knew!?)

KVG prive’ Salon by Kelly Van Gogh

Kelly Van Gogh is an internationally renowned celebrity hair colorist and Columbia University graduate. Kelly brings over 15 years of experience to the hair color industry- from product development for giants such as Aveda, Redken, Clairol and Logics — to running three hugely successful salons in South Beach Miami, Buckhead Atlanta and a private clientele salon in New York City.

Her Kelly prive’ salon in Atlanta is gorgeous and graciously, Kelly took the time to tell me more about it:

Shannon: Can you share with my readers more insight about your salon and the inspiration for it’s interior design?

Kelly Van Gogh: My salon, KVG prive’ by Kelly Van Gogh, is full of extraordinary talent from NYC, London, Miami and Atlanta. We specialize and are known for our sensual and intelligent hair color. We love to continue to always evolve our guests into fresh approaches to hair color and the design of the environment reflects a constant evolution and flexibility. Creativity cannot come from something that is standing still…. space must reflect movement and energy, but in a beautiful and inspiring way. The design elements are reflective of the energy of South Beach and LA and the bigger than life personalities that frequent both destinations and also the European sensuality of St. Barths. Our clientele, along with our team, are well traveled and we bring back the world in which to work and create.

Our hair color is driven by sensual mixtures of tones that creates our signature look, “Chic Glamour.” We have a VVIP clientele and are word of mouth and editorially promoted. Each guest is catered to by three team members, each with a specific area of expertise. Everyone is a celebrity, even if some do not appear on film. We love what we do and look forward to servicing each client. We have a traveling team of Kelly Van Gogh Creatives that frequent NYC, Miami and yearly London and Dubai.

Shannon: What makes your salon unique?

Kelly Van Gogh: We have no ego. We have fun and love what we do. We (ourselves) are our biggest competition.

You can learn more about KVG prive’ via their website. Come Spring 2009 Kelly is also unleashing the next generation of hair coloring products that will change the nature of the way the world currently looks at hair color. Be sure to stay tuned here and I’ll keep you in the loop when more information becomes available.

Have you been to KVG prive’? Why not share your experience in the comments?

A Girl’s Gotta Spa! Beauty Blog Featured in Trendi Magazine

In June I was interviewed by Trendi Magazine regarding my blog and being a beauty blogger. Trendi Magazine is one of Finland’s hottest beauty and fashion magazines. I have the hard copy here and I have to say that I absolutely love it–the images though because I can’t read a lick of the editorial!

If you click on the image, you should be able to click again and zoom in on the text so that it’s not blurry. This interview is really edited, so once my friend Katja at Skimbaco gets her hands on a copy, she is going to translate for me what it actually says so I can tell all of you.

I can tell you they asked me which 3 beauty blogs are recommended reading. I said: Lipstick Powder n’ Paint, The Girls in the Beauty Department (Glamour mag’s blog) and The Beauty Brains.

Thanks so much to Trendi for featuring me!
