LATHER Go Coconuts Body Scrub and Body Whip Review

There is nothing I love more in the summer (or for a mid-winter wake up) than the scent of coconuts. The fragrance makes me nostalgic of my childhood spent on the beaches of Rhode Island--from Prudence Island to Narraganset and Portsmouth, the scent of coconut-scented sunscreen filled the air. Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen Review

Life after Melanoma for me has been an interesting balance of educating myself and others about the dangers of the sun and skin cancer awareness … and finding ways to enjoy my time in the sun without being totally paranoid. Part of that mission has included trying every sunscreen under the sun. I’ve used Aveeno body and face washes in the past, but this was my first time using their sunscreen. Read more

Supergoop! Gradual Self-Tanning Review

Supergoop! Self-Tanning Mousse Review

I’m so excited about Supergoop! Gradual Self Tanning Mousse because it’s the answer to a little ongoing internal battle I’ve been having with myself for a while.

When using self tanner, do you moisturize first? After? Both? Then … how soon after do you apply sunscreen? Since my life changing battle with Melanoma, sunscreen has become a necessary and important part of my daily routine, but where does it fall into your beauty routine when you’re also moisturizing and self tanning? All of these products can get confusing to know how and in what order to use … and then there’s Supergoop! Gradual Self Tanning Sunscreen Mousse. ($38) It’s 3 in 1. Just one step to tan, moisturize, and protect! The perfect answer to this dilemma I’ve been quietly keeping to myself. Read more

No3 Berry Face Oil Review

no3-berry-face-oil-la-christineCan I use face oil if I have combination skin? Of course you can, simply avoid pore-clogging oils and use only the ones intended to moisturize your face.

L.A. Christine’s No3 Berry Face Oil is comprised of Lingonberry, raspberry and acai berry, yet smells of an herbally sweet concoction. High in Vitamin C (great for fading age spots), Vitamin B, and other vitamins that pack an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant punch, No3 Berry Face Oil absorbs quickly leaving no greasy residue behind. It is a multi-use oil, that is not only good for use on your face, but on your body (especially dry spots) and even as a hair conditioner. (I only used it on my face, so I can’t speak to how it works for either of those uses.) Read more

At Home Spa Treatments for Thrifty Shoppers

This is a post from Carleen at the beauty blog Beauty and Fashion Tech and the international fashion blog Just For Trendy Girls, which Carleen just acquired.

Everyone loves a trip to the spa, and med spas offer a variety of great, but expensive, anti-aging treatments. So, while these coveted mini-vacations are perfect for pampering oneself and for feeding the mind, body and soul, they are not cheap. Luckily, there are a number of great at-home products that can be used for pampering and anti-aging purposes.

Talika Skin Retouch Review

2013-03-23 01.22.24 (360x480) Talika products are often problem solvers and I love them for that. Talika Skin Retouch is one such product. Combining technology with skincare, Skin Retouch is actually derived from photo retouching techniques, just like using Photoshop on your photos to make your face looks flawless.

From the website:

Over time, the face loses its smoothness. The skin does not reflect light evenly anymore. The skin starts to look dull, tired, and greyish. SkinRetouch Face® acts as an instant corrector of time by playing smartly with light. The skin looks immediately younger.   Claims: Blurs fine lines and wrinkles, Unifies and mattifies complexion, and Tightens pores.

Good news, this is one of the best primers I’ve tried, especially for oily skin—which I don’t have but it still worked for me, another plus. It does fill in fine lines and pores, keep foundation fresh and diffuses light. I try a LOT of skin care and have been using a pretty rich moisturizer causing some shine breakthrough in my T-zone. Talika Skin Retouch keeps the oilies at bay. Give it a few minutes to fully “set” before applying makeup. Read more

Dr. Lewinn by Kinerase Instant Perfecting BB Cream Review

Dr. Lewinn by Kinerase Instant Perfecting BB Cream

Have you jumped on board the BB Cream trend yet? I’ve been trying all of the latest BB’s to hit shelves and I’d love to introduce you to Dr. Lewinn by Kinerase Instant Perfecting BB Cream SPF 15.

As a melanoma survivor, I’m obsessed with products that are at least SPF 15 and making sure my skin is always protected from the sun, and that includes my face, even under makeup.  This BB Cream is more like an all-in-one balm  that not only delivers on the promise of hydrating and protecting your skin, but also leaves a really nice tint finish, evens complexion, and makes spots less visible.

I don’t know about you, but I like to give my face a break from makeup on the weekends. While on a daily basis my beauty routine begins with BB Cream, followed by some mineral powder foundation, on the weekends I like to let me skin breathe. At the same time, I don’t want to look like an extra on The Walking Dead while running errands. Dr. Lewinn by Kinerase Instant Perfecting BB Cream was the perfect “little something” to throw on before running to the grocery store to even out my skin, get a little tint, and protect my skin from the sun.  Read more

Pevonia Spa Clinica Review

pevonia-spa-clinica

I fell in love with Pevonia’s skin care line last year when I began using their Ligne Soleil SPf 30 Hydrating Sunscreen. It was hydrating and made my skin feel velvety smooth, unlike any other sunscreen I have ever used. They recently just launched their new Spa Clinica line of products, which offers a simple 4-step regimen to help target your skin care issues. I don’t know about you, but I’m often overwhelmed by all of these skin care lines with a multitude of products in each line. How do I know which ones I really need?  Read more

L’OCCITANE Immortelle Brightening Mist Review

Now that Groundhog Day is behind us, its official – spring is quickly approaching! There is no better time to update and refresh your beauty regime and L’OCCITANE can help with the NEW Immortelle Brightening Mist.

Like all of the products in the Immortelle line, the Brightening Mist is made with the Immortelle flower,  also known as the everlasting flower, because this plant retains its form and color when dried. L’OCCITANE has extracted a precious essential oil from the Immortelle flower, which has anti-free radical and anti-wrinkle properties. L’Oreal Paris RevitaLift Miracle Blur Review

I’ve been hearing buzz about L’Oreal Paris’ latest RevitaLift debut, Miracle Blur, ever since my friend and celebrity makeup artist, Billy B. raved about it one day on Facebook. If he thinks it’s amazing, I knew I had to check it out. Thanks to Aprill at Glitter.Gloss.Garbage, she had an extra one she sent my way.

Amala Rejuvenate Targeted Wrinkle Treatment Review

While it’s true that you should grow old gracefully, sometimes I can’t help but cheat a little when it comes to minimizing the appearance of lines and wrinkles on my face.

I won’t ever get Botox or any other injections, but I am not adverse to using a topical treatment. Especially if it is one that is natural.

Amala’s Rejuvenate Targeted Wrinkle Treatment ($116) is plant-based, using only whole plant botanicals to treat and minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles on your face. While the tube may be small, this wrinkle treatment is potent and packs a punch.

I love how the roller ball applicator aids in applying the treatment. The roller ball feels cold on your skin, which is great if used under your eye as the combination of the cold, as well as the gentle pressure help to reduce under eye puffiness and dark circles. While this may not be the intended use of this product, it is definitely a great bonus!  Read more
