IT Cosmetics Cushion Compact Review

Last spring and summer while in Southeast Asia, I became intrigued by cushion compacts. Cushion compacts, like the BB cream, are the beauty brainchild of Korea...I really would like to go on a beauty passage through Korea. They seemed to be everywhere and I made mental note to myself to grab a couple before Read more

Eco-Beauty by La Fresh 100% Natural Massage Oils

Massages after a long day or after a few hours at the gym are just heaven. And just pure bliss if the massage oil being used is therapeutic and smells divine. Eco-Beauty® by La Fresh have some amazing massage oils and I was lucky enough to be sent bottles of their Energize and Detox massage oils to use.

100% natural, these oils are a blend of olive, grape seed, jojoba, sesame and vitamin E; there is Chinese lemongrass essential oil for Detox and essential oil of Italian orange for Energize. Both smell heavenly! As a masseur wasn’t readily available to me, I used the Energize oil after a shower and yes, Energize it does! The orange aroma is invigorating and leaves a light refreshing scent on your skin that makes me sniff myself (not a good look in public), several times a day. I love that each bottle has a dropper so it’s easy to get the right amount of oil. These oils are so versatile; they can also be used in a diffuser or in your bath… Read more

Review: Andalou Kukui Cocoa Body Butter

Andalou Naturals Kukui Cocoa Body Butter #review #bathandbody #beauty

My beauty regimen isn’t complete if I don’t start off with a well moisturized body regardless if it’s below 10 degrees or a sizzling 90. You can look like a million bucks in that cute dress, but if your skin looks itchy and dry, it ruins the whole outfit and not to mention, a good time.

Living in Minnesota, it can get a bit tricky finding the right body moisturizer with the change of seasons. In winter, you need something a bit more moisturizing, but come the hotter months and humidity you don’t want to use that same heavy moisturizer and feel like you took a bath in cooking oil. Finding a light but effective body moisturizer can sometimes be a bit overwhelming with all the choices out there so you (me) may end up grabbing the one with the pretty packaging only to find out that the smell is way off or it feels tacky on your skin. Pretty packaging doesn’t necessarily means effective… Read more

Laura Mercier Almond Coconut Milk Scrub

Summer is the time when I increase my exfoliation a bit (no one wants to see flaky pegs) and long for tropical or beach fragrances. Thanks to the folks at Laura Mercier, I get to experience both with her Almond Coconut Milk Scrub.

What I love about this creamy scrub is that it is a mixture of both sugar and beads (which are safest for exfoliation), olive oil, grape seed oil, coconut oil and sweet almond oil.  It comes in a hefty 12 ounce glass jar, which I thankfully have not broken yet.  I found this scrub to be gentle enough for everyday use, and it left a delicious scent behind on the skin (which makes me want to buy the Almond Coconut Milk Souffle Body Creme.) Not to mention that my bathroom smells heavenly during my shower and the scent lingers in the air for hours. Mmm. Seriously, I can’t begin to describe to you how yummy this scent is. You’ll just have to try it for yourself. Especially if you like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain.   Read more

eco-armour Shave Foam and Moisturizing Insect Repellent

Last year I tried eco-armour’s shave foams for the first  time and although my first review of their products was less than stellar, after using them  more than once I was absolutely hooked and needless to say HAD to give the shave foams an A+.  Not only does the shaving foam double as a body wash but it’s also plant-based  formula that acts as a first-aid to skin and razor blades and helps eliminates ingrown hairs, red bumps, razor burn, nicks, cuts and dull blades.  I also love the foam because it is not a creamy, oily mess  so there is less chance of me slipping in the shower…which has happened quite a few times.

Since this is now the only shaving product that I use, I was ecstatic to see that they have added an amazing new version of the foams which uses essential oils of pink grapefruit and bergamot…just in time for short shorts season.  The foams are also now called “Shave with Benefits“, which I think is fitting since there are so many benefits to using this product.  Read more

Freshen Up and Cool Down With a Minty Exfoliator

Back in our school days, unless you were one of those unlucky kids that always got stuck in summer school, summer was a priceless chance for some serious “me” time. Between summer camps and beach days and trips to the amusement park, however, that three-month break from school as a kid was hardly ever relaxing, and nowadays with my busy work schedule, I wish I could go back in time and kick my childhood self for not sleeping in just a few minutes later each day and really milking it for all it was worth.

But of course, you don’t know how good you have it till it’s gone, but there are still plenty of ways to relax your present self this summer without the need for a time machine! All you need is to infuse a mint-infused scrub into your usual shower routine! Extremely refreshing with an added minty-fresh sensation, mint exfoliators provide the perfect way to slough off a hot day’s sweat and keep summer-dry skin fresh, smooth, and clean. Plus, there’s nothing like the therapeutic scent of mint to put your mind at ease after a long hard day at camp! – I mean, work.   Read more

Review: gud by Burt’s Bees

gud is better than good. I struck gold when Klout sent me a perk that included products from Burt’s Bees new bath and body line called gud. To be honest, I haven’t really tried too many Burt’s Bees products; just their Replenishing Lip Balm and Herbal Blemish Stick. But as soon as I smelled Vanilla Flame, I was sucked into its awesomeness.   Read more

The Perfect Body Scrub: Sabon Patchouli Lavender

I don’t want to jinx it, but it seems like springtime is here to stay…and with warmer temps come leg-baring skirts and shorts! For those of you who might have neglected your skin during the winter, now is the time to focus your energies on getting your stems silky-smooth again!

We all know moisturization is key, but slathering on lotion does nothing if it’s sitting atop dead skin cells –the only way to rid your skin of impurities is to exfoliate. Now, I’ve been around the block when it comes to exfoliants, and I can say without a moment’s hesitation that my all-time favorite scrub is by Sabon, a luxury bath and body fragrance brand.

While doing my Christmas shopping months ago in Bryant Park, a Sabon employee convinced me (with a notable amount of zeal) to try out their body scrubs.  I was pretty hesitant at first, but I was completely blown away by the product. Made with dead sea salt and various nut oils the tiniest amount used two times a week will leave your skin silky smooth and completely moisturized.  Because I was Christmas shopping, I made an oath to myself that I wouldn’t purchase anything for personal use…but since I loved the scrub so much, I bought it for my roommate.  Read more

Moisturizer Review: Theraplex Ultra

A lot of moisturizers claim that they will provide relief from dry chapped skin. Sometimes they do…right after being applied to the skin, but not for much longer than that.  And on those rare occasions when they do provide dry skin relief for longer than a couple of hours, they tend to make my skin feel like a greasy, oily mess.  But I’ll deal with a greasy mess any day if it means healthier, more hydrated skin. Thanks to a product I started using this week, I can have relief from dry, chapped, cracked skin without being a hot greased up mess.  Read more

Putting a Magazine Beauty Tip to the “AGGS” Test

If you’re anything like me, one of the sources you look to for beauty advice, tips and tricks is magazines.  Of course, I also buy them for the fashion, celebrities and “other” types of advice (thanks Cosmopolitan), but I get especially pumped about reading and trying anything beauty related, after all this is advice from THE beauty experts.

In the January/February  issue of Health Magazine there was an article called “Soften Up All Over,” that was all about how to stay hydrated all over during the brutal winter months.  My skin tends to be pretty dry and especially more so during the winter months, so I thought I would try one of the tips on how to keep my body moisturized.  The tip basically suggested that applying lotion to my skin before I get into the shower would prevent the drying effects of soap and hot water.  Looking for a “hydrator with ceramides or hyalronic acid to help skin retain moisture and re-apply post shower” was also recommended.  So I put this beauty tip to the A Girl’s Gotta Spa! test.  Read more

Review: Repechage Thalasso Spa Bath

I have always wanted to pay a visit to a Thalassotherapy Spa.  After all, Thalassotherapy seems to be a great remedy for any number of ailments from weight loss and cellulite reduction, to back problems, water retention, improved circulation and even joint pain…not to mention the relaxing and rejuvenating benefits it provides.  I still have not had the pleasure of visiting a Thalasso Spa, but I have gotten to indulge in Thalassotherapy from the comfort of my own home, thanks to Repechage’s Thalasso Spa Bath.

The Thalasso Spa Bath is a seaweed bath that harvests seaweed  from the clean sea-waters off the coast of France (which makes sense since Thalassotherapy is very popular in the Mediterranean.)  The seaweed extract is rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids and trace elements that are intended to relieve stress, improve circulation, and revitalize the body while also providing the body with all of the nutritive benefits from the sea.  Read more
