Soap & Glory has quickly become one of the UK’s most well-known (and most-liked) lines of beauty products. Supporting the “Clean of England” since 2006, the cheeky brand started when suds-loving founder Marcia Kilgore used her cosmetic chemistry savvy to create fun, fearless, and fantastically formulated bath, beauty, and body products. After a brief departure, the Soap and Glory brand is back in the U.S. and I am ecstatic! Retro girly, tongue-in-cheek packaging make Soap and Glory products just plain ‘ol fun!! Read more
My beauty regimen isn’t complete if I don’t start off with a well moisturized body regardless if it’s below 10 degrees or a sizzling 90. You can look like a million bucks in that cute dress, but if your skin looks itchy and dry, it ruins the whole outfit and not to mention, a good time.
Living in Minnesota, it can get a bit tricky finding the right body moisturizer with the change of seasons. In winter, you need something a bit more moisturizing, but come the hotter months and humidity you don’t want to use that same heavy moisturizer and feel like you took a bath in cooking oil. Finding a light but effective body moisturizer can sometimes be a bit overwhelming with all the choices out there so you (me) may end up grabbing the one with the pretty packaging only to find out that the smell is way off or it feels tacky on your skin. Pretty packaging doesn’t necessarily means effective… Read more
gud is better than good. I struck gold when Klout sent me a perk that included products from Burt’s Bees new bath and body line called gud. To be honest, I haven’t really tried too many Burt’s Bees products; just their Replenishing Lip Balm and Herbal Blemish Stick. But as soon as I smelled Vanilla Flame, I was sucked into its awesomeness. Read more
I don’t want to jinx it, but it seems like springtime is here to stay…and with warmer temps come leg-baring skirts and shorts! For those of you who might have neglected your skin during the winter, now is the time to focus your energies on getting your stems silky-smooth again!
We all know moisturization is key, but slathering on lotion does nothing if it’s sitting atop dead skin cells –the only way to rid your skin of impurities is to exfoliate. Now, I’ve been around the block when it comes to exfoliants, and I can say without a moment’s hesitation that my all-time favorite scrub is by Sabon, a luxury bath and body fragrance brand.
While doing my Christmas shopping months ago in Bryant Park, a Sabon employee convinced me (with a notable amount of zeal) to try out their body scrubs. I was pretty hesitant at first, but I was completely blown away by the product. Made with dead sea salt and various nut oils the tiniest amount used two times a week will leave your skin silky smooth and completely moisturized. Because I was Christmas shopping, I made an oath to myself that I wouldn’t purchase anything for personal use…but since I loved the scrub so much, I bought it for my roommate. Read more
A lot of moisturizers claim that they will provide relief from dry chapped skin. Sometimes they do…right after being applied to the skin, but not for much longer than that. And on those rare occasions when they do provide dry skin relief for longer than a couple of hours, they tend to make my skin feel like a greasy, oily mess. But I’ll deal with a greasy mess any day if it means healthier, more hydrated skin. Thanks to a product I started using this week, I can have relief from dry, chapped, cracked skin without being a hot greased up mess. Read more
If you’re anything like me, one of the sources you look to for beauty advice, tips and tricks is magazines. Of course, I also buy them for the fashion, celebrities and “other” types of advice (thanks Cosmopolitan), but I get especially pumped about reading and trying anything beauty related, after all this is advice from THE beauty experts.
In the January/February issue of Health Magazine there was an article called “Soften Up All Over,” that was all about how to stay hydrated all over during the brutal winter months. My skin tends to be pretty dry and especially more so during the winter months, so I thought I would try one of the tips on how to keep my body moisturized. The tip basically suggested that applying lotion to my skin before I get into the shower would prevent the drying effects of soap and hot water. Looking for a “hydrator with ceramides or hyalronic acid to help skin retain moisture and re-apply post shower” was also recommended. So I put this beauty tip to the A Girl’s Gotta Spa! test. I have always wanted to pay a visit to a Thalassotherapy Spa. After all, Thalassotherapy seems to be a great remedy for any number of ailments from weight loss and cellulite reduction, to back problems, water retention, improved circulation and even joint pain…not to mention the relaxing and rejuvenating benefits it provides. I still have not had the pleasure of visiting a Thalasso Spa, but I have gotten to indulge in Thalassotherapy from the comfort of my own home, thanks to Repechage’s Thalasso Spa Bath.
The Thalasso Spa Bath is a seaweed bath that harvests seaweed from the clean sea-waters off the coast of France (which makes sense since Thalassotherapy is very popular in the Mediterranean.) The seaweed extract is rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids and trace elements that are intended to relieve stress, improve circulation, and revitalize the body while also providing the body with all of the nutritive benefits from the sea. Finally I’ve found a fragrance collection that I would wear together…at the same time. H2O+ Blue Eau De Toilette and Body lotion are so light and refreshing that I am not afraid that using the products all together will give myself, or those around me, a headache. With notes of watery peony, rosewood, nectarine and bergamot, Blue Eau De Toilette and Body Lotion  have a really clean, fresh scent and it is not at all overpowering. Although it is clean and fresh, I still feel feminine and sensual while wearing it. I equate it to wearing your best fitting, most flattering pair of blue jeans with some killer heels. The body lotion has a lightweight feel, but it contains Shea Butter, Vitamin E and Aloe Vera so it is still hydrating and soothing on your skin.
It has been quite a while since I have tried a fragrance that I would considering wearing on an everyday basis, but I will definitely be wearing H2O+ Blue everyday, it has become a staple…just like my favorite pair of blue jeans. Have you worn it?
A Girls Gotta Spa!
has discovered an inexpensive treat that will keep your skin looking young and fresh when the season depletes it of moisture.
At under five dollars per product, Calgon’s Ageless Bath Collection is an affordable, easy way to give your skin the antioxidant protection it deserves.
I’m an unashamed bath product enthusiast, so I was excited to try the Luminous Bath Pearls. Calgon’s exclusive Vita-Pearl technology includes Vitamin E and collagen to moisturize, while the pearl powder blend imparts a luminous glow. The scent, though slightly overpowering at first, was quite nice and refreshing, and my skin had a soft shimmer once I dried off.
If you have ultra-dry skin, I would advise against using this product alone as a moisturizing agent as it’s best to pair it with a richer lotion for dry skin relief. Overall, the Ageless Bath Collection is wonderful little treat that feels much more decadent than the price tag would lead you to believe.
Learn more about Calgon’s Ageless Bath Pearls and kiss your dull dry skin goodbye! Have you used this product?

In the last year I have had to drastically cut back on visits to the spa. My normal routine would  include monthly waxing, facial, threading, microdermabrasion and a few other treatments. In the last year my budget has just not allowed me the luxury of my “normal monthly beauty routine”, so like any good recessionista I’ve had to find at-home spa alternatives. And I did a few months back when I discovered Repechage, a professional line of skincare products available at spas around the globe. I tried a few skincare products from this line and they performed great, spa quality results at home. I was excited to find out if their bath and body products would also give me that at-home spa feeling.
I tried their line of Sea Spa bodycare, which included the Sea Spa Body Wash, Sea Spa Bubble Bath and the Sea Spa Massage, Bath & Body Oil. All of these products are infused with essential oils and sea plants and they all have a really soothing fragrance. The body wash is a soap-free foaming gel that left my skin feeling clean but not dry. The bubble bath is also soap and sulfate free and contains essential oils that are combined together to help detoxify, ease tension and  relax muscles. The fragrance of the bubble bath definitely helped me to relax and my skin did not feel as dry as it normally does after soaking in a bath for 20 minutes, I was a bit disappointed that the bubbles dissolved rather quickly, though.
My favorite is definitely the Massage, Bath & Body Oil. It left my skin feeling smooth and silky and contains no artificial color or synthetic perfume. These bath and body products did not disappoint, they performed just as well as the skincare products that I’ve tried from this line. Just the fragrance alone was enough to make me feel like I had created a spa in the privacy of my own bathroom, the only thing missing from the equation was a thick, plushy spa robe…make sure you have one handy before beginning your Repechage spa experience at home.
