A Girl's Gotta Spa! Leaping Bunny Certified as Cruelty Free

Something I've learned in my 8+ years of beauty blogging, is that many brands like to say they are something without any proof to back it. Brands say they are natural, but the ingredient label tells a different story. Brands say they are organic because they assume you won't Read more

#Eyes4NYC Twitter Party 4/24 #ad

This summer I'll be 40. Wrinkles and fine lines know their way around my face like a road map. I wish what I know now about anti-aging, I knew 20 years ago so that I could take better care of my skin. However, since I can't literally turn back Read more

Beauty Benefits of Lime

It may sound silly, but even though I don't drink, those Corona commercials snag my attention every time. Sounds of the ocean, the sense of relaxation and the refreshing lime placed perfectly in the bottle neck. It's that lime that calls out to me saying, "Let me quench your Read more

Belvada Mascara Noir Review

Retractable Mascara

Normally I go to MyHabit and Hautelook in the hopes of finding a great deal on shoes, bags or clothing, and lately they’ve both had some pretty great beauty products on their sites at prices that I just have not been able to pass up.  Purchasing beauty products on these sites are a great way for me to experiment with products without having to pay full price for them, that way if they disappoint, I won’t be too bummed.

Last week I came across Belvada Mascara Noir and at pretty much half off the normal price that I could not resist ordering it.  The Belvada Mascara Noir is a retractable mascara that allows for “one hand” application, meaning instead of having to dip your mascara wand into the tube, you simply just extend or retract the brush of this mascara by pushing a slider up or down. C.Booth Original Bath and Body Oil Review

C.Booth Original Bath & Body Oil #reviewWith cooler weather fast approaching, one of my beloved beauty rituals that I cannot wait to get back to is bath time.  I tend to avoid taking baths in spring and summer because with the warmer weather the last thing I want to do is lay in a tub of hot water.  As soon as fall begins to roll around, I start getting excited about all things bath related.

The bath product usually on the top of my list of must-have bath products is a great smelling, skin softening bath oil.  That sounds easy enough to find, but I also happen to have a boyfriend who also gets excited about bath time so I like to have bath products that are not too flowery and heavily scented that we can both use…a reasonable bath oil doesn’t hurt either. Koh Gen Do Fresh Face Cheek Color

Ever since an amazing makeup artist in Minneapolis used Koh Gen Do Cosmetics on me for a shoot, I have been obsessed.  The Moisture Foundation and Face Powder both felt really light, gentle and incredibly luxurious on my skin and my face looked uber flawless and amazing. A few weeks ago I noticed that Koh Gen Do was on Hautelook so I figured it was the perfect time for me to try the Fresh Face cheek color.

The Fresh Face cheek color has the most perfect packaging.  It is just absolutely gorgeous, yet simple and sophisticated.  The Fresh Face cheek color itself  is just heavenly! It just glided on my skin like a dream.  It felt silky, soft, smooth and positively splendid.  It left my cheeks with color that truly looked like it was radiating from within, just as if I were actually blushing or had just come back in from being out in the cold.  In addition to gorgeous color, the Fresh Face cheek color also gave my skin the most lovely glow. Lulah Citron Body Mist Review

Lulah Citron

I’m a huge Thymes fan and couldn’t wait to breathe in the scents of their new “fashion-fragrance brand” bath and body collection, Lulah. This line is aimed towards a younger shopper with fun, fresh, and flirty scents . . . but that didn’t stop me from falling head over heels in love with the super fresh Citron!

The Lulah line includes body wash, body lotion, body mist and hand cream, available in 5 scents: Citron, Peony, Magnolia Fig, Vanilla Orchid, and Tamarind Ginger. I sampled all of them, but adored Citron. I’m a huge fan of lemon-vanilla scents, but Lulah’s Citron body mist ($11) stood out from all the rest. It seems brighter, lighter, and sweeter than other citrus scents. It’s enchanting and to put it simply: it’s ME. This scent has ME written all over it. Citron by Lulah features pink grapefruit, lemon, basil and tea leaf. Read more

Sisters

Dance moms? How about dance sisters!

If you have a younger sister, you may have memories of her wearing your clothes, taking your favorite makeup and trying to duplicate your hairstyle. However, I honestly don’t think my sister could’ve possibly gotten her hair any higher than mine…then again she did think she was a hairstylist at one point and convinced me to go under her scissors. That turned out badly. Read more

Banish Summer Shine With Tatcha Japanese Beauty Papers

tatcha-beauty-paper-review
I absolutely dislike the feel of too much product on my face and for that reason will avoid face powder like the plague in the summer.  I just feel like it does not matter how great a powder is, in summer with the heat and humidity, I have to reapply it so often to banish oil and shine that the powder just starts to build upon my face making it feel heavy and clogged.  Last summer I discovered Tatcha Beauty Papers at the amazing eyelash bar and makeup studio Jett Makeup in Edina, Minnesota.  These beauty papers are perfect for removing excess oil on my face without ruining or makeup. A Girl’s Gotta Spa! Celebrates 7 Years of Beauty Blogging

On this date, seven years ago, at the young age of 31, I began to find my voice. I heard stories of how when you turn 30, you really discover who you are. This was true for me.

I had long had a passion for writing, was obsessed with every beauty product on the planet, but also wanted to find a way to make a difference in the lives of others.

Can a beauty blog make a difference in someone’s life? It sure can when you provide them with a solution to their problem.  Read more

Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser Review

I’ve found liquid gold…black gold to be exact. I was given a 1 oz sample of boscia’s newest face cleanser, Detoxifying Black Cleanser and I must say I’m glad I chose this cleanser over a lip gloss.

For those who haven’t heard or know anything about boscia, they are a preservative-free, botanically-based skincare line. “(boscia contains none of the 150 industry-recognized preservatives – not just parabens – that can irritate skin and cause blemishes, redness, eczema and more).” With the combination of cutting edge Japanese technology and active botanical ingredients, boscia’s philosophy is to achieve superior results without compromising skin health.   Read more

Acne Treatment Review: Rx for Brown Skin Hydrating Acne Lotion and Acne Spot Treatment

My skin, for the most part, is pretty problem free but every once in a while…or more like once every month without fail…I tend to develop a serious case of acne that always seems to appear right before a big event or a photoshoot.  As soon as I notice that tiny red bump or feel that all too familiar tender spot on my skin, I start to attack it with lotions and potions intended to treat and prevent those bumps from transforming into pimples.  This plan of attack has resulted in one of two scenarios thus far; either it does not work and I just deal with a ginormous pimple for a few days…or a full week, or it works but also turns my skin into a dry flaky mess.

During this month’s battle of the breakouts, I used Rx For Brown Skins’ Clear Luminosity Acne Lotion and Precise Clarity Acne Spot Treatment as my weapons of choice and am ecstatic to say that I emerged victorious from this battle…finally.  The Clear Luminosity Acne Lotion did not leave my skin feeling dry and flaky like every other acne treatment lotion I’ve used in the past.  It was actually very hydrating and left my skin feeling softer and smoother, it also seemed to soothe my skin instead of irritating it.  The Precise Clarity Acne Spot Treatment helped to clear up my pimples, and while it was noticeably more drying than the lotion it still did not leave my skin a flaky, irritated mess.  With both of these products, the suggested application frequency is one to three times daily but I only needed to use it once a day and I generally used it at night, which worked out really well for me.   Read more

eco-armour Shave Foam and Moisturizing Insect Repellent

Last year I tried eco-armour’s shave foams for the first  time and although my first review of their products was less than stellar, after using them  more than once I was absolutely hooked and needless to say HAD to give the shave foams an A+.  Not only does the shaving foam double as a body wash but it’s also plant-based  formula that acts as a first-aid to skin and razor blades and helps eliminates ingrown hairs, red bumps, razor burn, nicks, cuts and dull blades.  I also love the foam because it is not a creamy, oily mess  so there is less chance of me slipping in the shower…which has happened quite a few times.

Since this is now the only shaving product that I use, I was ecstatic to see that they have added an amazing new version of the foams which uses essential oils of pink grapefruit and bergamot…just in time for short shorts season.  The foams are also now called “Shave with Benefits“, which I think is fitting since there are so many benefits to using this product.  Read more
