A lot has happened since 2005. A Girl’s Gotta Spa! began as a beauty blog intended to help other women, short on time, discover meaningful reviews and tips that they could incorporate into their daily lives. It was also a way for me to connect socially with women in my season of life beyond the 4 walls of my house. (Working from home has many benefits, but socializing is not one of them.)
October marks nine years that I’ve been blogging. (Insert gif of me doing the robot dance here. No, there’ll be no image, but just know that I am indeed jamming out.)
Thinking back to the October 26, 2005 version of me sitting in front of my chunky computer monitor on a dial-up internet connection, I was full of excitement and anticipation. I had zero html skills and zero design skills, but I was happy to figure it out as I went. There weren’t many beauty blogs at the time, and the ones I was reading (Scentzilla, Beautiful Makeup Search, The Scented Salamander, Beauty Addict, Bag Snob, e-Beauty Daily) all had their unique spin on the beauty and fashion world – I knew I needed to discover mine. (Lest I forget to mention that I read Amalah every single day, as well.)
For lack of doing a yawn-worthy post, I’ve decided to compile 9 things I’ve learned in 9 years of beauty blogging – this is going to be long: Read more
I’m very grateful for the opportunity Mutual of Omaha gave me to put #myahamoment on video. I’m also very grateful for all of you that have continued to support the concept of You Deserve to Be Pampered by purchasing A Girl’s Gotta Spa! natural bath and body products.
I hope the video helps you to get to know who I am better and how my goal has, and always will be, to help you. You can also read in more detail the full story behind launching A Girl’s Gotta Spa! bath and body products. Watch the video and let me know what you think in the comments! Read more
Believe it or not, a blogger’s makeup bag is not always overflowing with products when we travel. Most of us have a handful of products we are loyal to simply because they get the job done while home or away.
I recently spent some time in Atlantic City and asked fellow bloggers Kelly Augustine from www.KellyAugustine.com and Lyuba from www.WillCookForSmiles.com what their must have beauty products were while traveling. Watch the video to hear about our favorite beauty products and then find the links to all of them below: Read more

Honestly, the easy button was made for people like me. There are just some things I have no patience for, and nail art is one of them. I wish I could tell you that as a beauty blogger I am super creative and uber crafty and create endless nail looks to swoon over, but the truth is, my nails go bare most of the time.
It’s a tragedy really. For some reason, ever since I wore shellac back in 2011, my nails have never grown to any substantial length. But that’s not my only excuse. I simply lack the skill required to paint cool scenes on my tiny nails. Then Pinterest to my rescue! I came across an amazingly easy nail art tutorial, and I was pretty excited to be able to recreate it with some modifications.

Spring’s hottest color in beauty, Radiant Orchid, is hands down one of my favorite beauty trends in YEARS. I’ve been wearing purple hues since I was first allowed to wear makeup (of course it wasn’t as chic back then and very 80’s.)
Below are my top ten for this season and I’d love to know if they are yours too! Read more
Well known cruelty-free beauty blogger, Jennifer Matthews of My Beauty Bunny (sm), is dipping her toes into the personal care industry and I couldn’t be more excited!
My Beauty Bunny’s initial launch into the cruelty free, vegan beauty space is with her All Natural Cruelty Free AHA Moisturizer. Great for all skin types and the AHA (5%) is sourced from fruit. Other ingredients include aloe, toning witch hazel, moisturizing squalane (from olives), bilberry fruit, sugar cane, sugar maple, orange fruit extract, lemon fruit extract; and antioxidants: camellia oleifera (white tea), camellia sinensis (green tea), and aspalathus linearis (AKA rooibus or “red tea”). This facial moisturizer is fragranced with a grapefruit cranberry scent. Read more
If you color treat or heat style your hair, you’ll want to indulge in Phyrra’s Pretty Little Elixir Hair Masque. This vegan, cruelty free and paraben free hair masque is the brain child of fellow beauty blogger, Phyrra. Phyrra’s Pretty Little Elixir Hair Masque was designed for heat treated, chemically treated, or dyed hair that’s dull or dry. It has nourishing ingredients to reduce the signs of external damage and restore hair’s softness, moisture and luster.
You can apply the mask to damp hair and cover with a hot towel for 10 minutes to allow it to absorb overnight if your hair is extra frizzy and dry. Simply work it from root to tip using a wide tooth comb, wrap, leave it on for 10 minutes (or overnight) and rinse with cool water.
Check out this video from Phyrra explaining more about it: Read more
We’ve all seen them. Products that make claims with spirited buzzwords to grab your attention. Whether it’s touting the latest trendy ingredient or making boastful claims, and subsequently providing you with a photoshopped image to drive the point home, at some time or another we’ve fallen victim to them, but most of all, we’re beginning to get tired of them.
I decided to poll my fellow beauty bloggers to find out what a specific beauty buzzword means to them, here’s their responses, and I would love to hear yours in the comments! Read more
I shuffled a few pieces of loose leaf papers together on my desk and stapled them. I opened to the first page, put pen to paper and began to write out my short story, along with illustrations (my “books” always had illustrations.) The first page would always say, “Written by Shannon Crino” in perfect cursive penmanship. Then, dressed in my neatly pressed green plaid St. James school uniform, I would bring it to the front of the class and place it next to the other books my fifth grade teacher had organized for our daily reading time. I’d then sit and eagerly await my classmates to take one of my books and read them. I’d patiently watch their expressions as they would finger through the pages, and when they’d look up, their eyes meeting mine, they’d smile.
That sealed the deal for me when it came to writing. I knew I wanted to be putting words on pages that meant something to someone. A way I could resonate with them. For the rest of my life. Read more
Wondering which lip colors are on trend this Fall? Some of the top beauty bloggers (yes, including me!) decided to get on camera and dish about their favorites.
Yes, that’s me standing in the woods! And how can you not be distracted watching Clumps of Mascara’s gorgeous daughter trying to snag her lip gloss?
Everyone has some great lip color picks! My favorite lip color for Fall is Three Custom Color’s Lip Gloss Pot in Simply Beautiful. It looks brown-ish in the pot, but I assure you that it’s a neutral color and looks great on all skin tones. I apply with a lip brush and you only need a small amount to make your lips pop. Three Custom also sells this color in a lipstick, gloss and even as a cream blush.
Watch the video below and a big thank you to Phyrra for putting this together!
