I love the colder months, but they don’t always love my skin. From around November to February (April if I happen to be in Minnesota), my skin gets dry, irritated, itchy and flaky. The moisturizers that I use in Spring, Summer and even for a good portion of Fall, just won’t cut it. I absolutely need a moisturizer that’s heavier and more luxurious during this time of the year. I also love using scents that are more holiday inspired during this time, so anything that has a chocolaty, vanilla type scent is much desired. You can imagine why something called Positively Nourishing Comforting Whipped Soufflé by Aveeno would spark my interest. Read more

When a food item gets its own year, that has to mean that it’s pretty amazing. In the case of quinoa, the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has officially declared that the year 2013 be recognized as, “The International Year of the Quinoa.”
By now you might have heard that quinoa is another one of these “super foods” that you should be incorporating into your diet (which is super easy to do given how versatile it is.) I use it as a substitute for other grains such as rice and pasta, in my salads and as a breakfast porridge. There are dozens of other ways quinoa can also be used, I personally am looking forward to using it for baking , for making a vegan quinoa burger and since the holiday season is upon us I am thinking of ways to incorporate it into stuffing etc. Read more
We all know the dangers of the sun, and those with fair skin (like myself), tend to avoid it at all costs to reduce the risk of sunburn. Sometimes, no matter how much SPF you apply and how often, fair skin becomes burned skin.
Thanks to the improvements with sunless tanning, a healthy glow can be achieved all year round without ever stepping foot on the beach… Read more

All of us have a man in our lives that could fall victim to prostate cancer. Our dads, our sons, our husbands, boyfriends, brothers, friends, co-workers… During the summer my cousin was diagnosed with testicular cancer, he is in his mid-twenties, proving that cancer doesn’t discern by age.
method sent us their Designed for Good gel hand wash (which we always need plenty of in this house) complete with a mustache design and stickers. While the stickers were meant to be placed on the bottle, I felt it would be a good way to showcase my son’s personalities if they wore them and posed. They had fun and it gave me the opportunity to talk to them about the importance of seeing the doctor and preventative care (something I feel that most men ignore–so why not raise boys that understand the value from an early age?) We’ve all seen them. Products that make claims with spirited buzzwords to grab your attention. Whether it’s touting the latest trendy ingredient or making boastful claims, and subsequently providing you with a photoshopped image to drive the point home, at some time or another we’ve fallen victim to them, but most of all, we’re beginning to get tired of them.
I decided to poll my fellow beauty bloggers to find out what a specific beauty buzzword means to them, here’s their responses, and I would love to hear yours in the comments! Read more
When makeup artist extraordinaire, Billy Brasfield, raves about a product, I sit up and take notice. He called out the awesomeness of Miracle Blur…and I subsequently bought it. He said that the new L’Oreal Butterfly Mascara was a game changer, so I waited the two months until my local CVS finally got it in stock to buy it. (I was seriously there weekly badgering them as to the exact date it would be in stock!) I’ve been wearing it for about a month now and here are my thoughts: Read more
There’s another great brand launching…this time by beauty blogger and chemist-cosmetologist, Kitiya King!
Mischo Beauty is a nail lacquer line that has gorgeous colors, it’s long-lasting and it’s 5-FREE (no Formaldehyde, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Toluene, Formaldehyde Resin, and Camphor.) The 5-free formula excludes toxins that have been known to contribute to cancer, birth defects and reproductive issues. Not only is it environmentally friendly, but also cruelty free.
Kitiya conceptualized the Mischo Beauty nail lacquer line in the midst of a fruitless, frustrating search for stunning, cruelty free, non-toxic polishes safe for pregnant women. As a mom of 4 boys, I know all too well how careful I was about not only what I ate, but the beauty products I was using as well. Read more
I love a good DIY scrub to help detox and cleanse your skin. Inspired by a treatment offered in Six Senses Laamu in the Maldives (a destination on my spa bucket list), this scrub leaves skin hydrated and smooth. All ingredients are found on the islands of the Maldives and luckily for us, also most supermarkets.
