Revlon Luxurious Colorsilk Buttercream Haircolor Review

I’ll be straight with you, I haven’t had the time in my schedule to cut my hair since September or October of last year. While I desperately need one, the one trick I know that makes people think that I did cut my hair, is to color it. Have you ever done this? I know I can’t be the only one!

Revlon had perfect timing with a Klout Perk I received to try out their new Luxurious Colorsilk Buttercream Haircolor. I choose 30N, which is dark brown. I’ve never used any of Revlon’s permanent haircolor’s, except for their Frost and Glow, which I didn’t really have a good experience with (more bleaching than actual highlighting.) But I have to say, their Luxurious Colorsilk Buttercream Haircolor has made me a fan.  Read more

How Do You Avoid a Unibrow?

How do you tame a unibrow and shape it?

That’s the question I recently asked brow guru, Ramy Gafni, when trying to tackle my teen-aged son’s very obvious caterpillar above his eyes. Gavin was cool with me separating it into two obvious brows, but then came my next question, how do you shape them without looking “girly”?

Ramy to the rescue to tell me the correct way to trim and shape his brows (and oops! I was using an electric trimmer to buzz in between the brow…a no-no according to Ramy.)

Here’s Ramy’s expert brow adviceRead more

Celebrity Master Colorist Jason Backe Hair Coloring Tips

As an avid hair coloring fiend, I was nervous upon hearing January Jones revelation that her hair is falling out in clumps. Since I literally just colored my hair over the weekend, I decided I needed some expert advice from my friend and celebrity Master Colorist, Jason Backe of Ted Gibson Salon. He’s also the Celebrity Colorist for L’Oreal Professionnel, so he definitely knows color!

Q: January Jones revealed that her hair is falling out in clumps from all of the hair coloring she has done in the past year. Is what is happening to her normal and something that others who color their hair should worry about?

Jason: The question in whether or not the hair is falling out at the scalp OR breaking off in clumps. If the hair is falling out at the scalp I would seriously doubt it is product related. In my entire career I have never experienced hair color to cause bald spots at the scalp (and believe me, I have women who color their hair from brown to blond every 12 days). I have however seen bald spots appear because of diet or stress related issues and although I wouldn’t consider this common, it is not unusual. If the hair is breaking off in clumps then it is most likely a hair integrity issue. Excessive coloring can lead to damage and ultimately breakage – no matter how expertly talented the colorist. If you are a girl who loves to change your color frequently, look for the signs of extremely dry, brittle and breaking hair. This will let you know to pump your breaks and run to the salon for weekly treatments (I am obsessed with the Fiberceutic treatment by L’Oreal Professionnel – it REBUILDS the hair from the inside out – MAJOR) to restore health and integrity before your next color.

Q: How often should women go between colorings?  Read more

Vault Lip Gloss Triple Espresso Review

Recently I have gotten the pleasure of trying out Vault Lip Gloss, which I love. Most lip glosses are too sticky, too runny or never last.  Not only was this retractable lip gloss AMAZING , it went on smoothly, made my lips feel like pure silk, and the shade of gloss (Triple Espresso) was fabulous.  After trying out Vault Lip Gloss ($16) I wanted to do a little research and find out  some information to figure out why this lip gloss is so spectacular.

Vault is based in Newport Beach California, and they wanted to make products that work with an active lifestyle- meaning simple to open, close (one handed) and easy to apply. And Vault Lip Gloss is just that! You just push to open and reveal brush-like pen, pump for more gloss and click to close. All of Vaults products are made with natural ingredients found on the pacific coast and are all also cruelty free. Vault’s glosses are formulated with jojoba oil and vitamin E. This lip gloss lasted for a good amount of time without having to reapply.  Read more

The result is Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Foundation. The innovative formula can be applied wet or dry for a sheer finish or a full matte finish. Nicole by OPI Introduces Modern Family Nail Polish Collection

Modern Family has to be one of the best written TV series currently on air. The characters are hilarious and the situations they get in are equally as entertaining. I love that each episode has a lesson or some small heart-tugging moment among all the laughs. Nicole by OPI  launched 14 new nail lacquers inspired by the award-winning comedy.

The nail line features shades ranging from more nude colors that would appeal to Julie Bowen’s no-nonsense Claire, to a sparkly violet shade meant to represent Gloria’s (Sofia Vergara) more flamboyant look.

“Modern Family is not only one of the funniest shows on television, it features a great ensemble cast of rich characters that inspired a range of shades, from pastel hues like sea foam green and periwinkle to brighter colors of cobalt and red-violet,” says Suzy Weiss-Fischmann, Nicole by OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “From studious Alex to bombshell Gloria, to classic (and neurotic) Claire, to flirty Haley, there are shades to represent each of these uniquely fabulous women – and everyone else in the blended family.”

The shade names are so cute and clever!  Read more

Breathe Salon and Day Spa Facial Review

Review by Courtney Smith

You should get a facial,” I would hear my sister-in-law say to me over the past few years, “they are so great, so relaxing.”  It sounded nice, but other than imagining mud plastered over my face, I really did not know what a facial was or what kind of benefits to expect from getting one.  Low and behold as I made my daily drive past Breathe Salon and Spa of Lansdale, PA I noticed a big sign that hung promoting anti-aging facials. Weeks away from thirty-five and with enough fine lines on my face to show it, anti-aging sounded fantastic to me.

I have had the pleasure of enjoying Breathe Salon and Spa’s knock out cut and colors in the past and thought this would be a terrific opportunity to explore one more, of the many, self-care aspects that the salon and spa has to offer.  Per usual the staff was friendly and welcoming, the environment was creatively inspiring and offered a sense of serenity, and upon meeting Maureen Barnes, Breathe’s premier certified Esthetician, who is filled with 20 years of cosmetology wisdom, I was provided with a tour of the room where my facial would be done, as well as educated on what to expect from our time together.  Maureen displayed confidence, professional and practical knowledge, and her presence emitted calm energy that placed me in a mood of ease for the hour we spent together. She was able to answer all my questions and then some and offered me some simple tips to assist me in dealing with the season’s harsh effects on my skin and for my my anti-aging  (appearance) journey.   Read more

Clinique High Impact Extreme Waterproof Mascara Review

We all want lashes that make a high impact statement. Like, how did she get lashes like that? Or even better, I WANT lashes like that!

While I may have decent lashes, something I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older is that my lashes are getting lighter in color. I have no idea why this is…and if you know, please enlighten me. So it is an absolute must-have, whether I have on a full face of makeup or not, mascara MUST be worn.  Read more
