Beauty Benefits of Lime

It may sound silly, but even though I don't drink, those Corona commercials snag my attention every time. Sounds of the ocean, the sense of relaxation and the refreshing lime placed perfectly in the bottle neck. It's that lime that calls out to me saying, "Let me quench your Read more

AVEDA Heart Lands Makeover

Aveda Heart Lands

Five years ago my step-mom, Cindy Crino’s, life changed in an instant. One moment she was a successful science teacher in Hawaii, the next moment she was trapped in a school elevator that crashed three floors down, damaging her spine and spirit. Since that dreadful day in 2008 Cindy’s life path changed forever more as the accident caused permanent disability. No longer able to afford their home, they lost everything they had with the exception of their environmentally friendly cars. Five fighting years later in June 2013 it was those cars that helped them to make their way back to a much-needed family support system on the east coast.

I remember visiting my dad and step-mom prior to her accident and, per usual, Cindy looked put-together and displayed a jolly spirit. However, when she arrived to my home this past June 2013 after spending five years in what she calls “the wilderness” of Utah (the first nearest spot they could afford to get to on the mainland after Hawaii) the toll of chronic pain, mild mobility impairment, and still needing to be a caregiver herself was apparent. My arms wrapped around her with a verbal reminder that she was now safe at home, as the tears streamed down our faces. Read more

How Do You Organize Your Beauty Products?

I honestly admit that I have an organization problem. Way too many beauty products and not enough counter space.

I also find that the more makeup bags I have, the more products they accumulate, many times well past their expiration date. So let me share with you what my upstairs bathroom looked like before I was sent Caboodles Gilded Pleasure Nail Valet and their Cosmetic Counter Tray.

Lulah Citron Body Mist Review

Lulah Citron

I’m a huge Thymes fan and couldn’t wait to breathe in the scents of their new “fashion-fragrance brand” bath and body collection, Lulah. This line is aimed towards a younger shopper with fun, fresh, and flirty scents . . . but that didn’t stop me from falling head over heels in love with the super fresh Citron!

The Lulah line includes body wash, body lotion, body mist and hand cream, available in 5 scents: Citron, Peony, Magnolia Fig, Vanilla Orchid, and Tamarind Ginger. I sampled all of them, but adored Citron. I’m a huge fan of lemon-vanilla scents, but Lulah’s Citron body mist ($11) stood out from all the rest. It seems brighter, lighter, and sweeter than other citrus scents. It’s enchanting and to put it simply: it’s ME. This scent has ME written all over it. Citron by Lulah features pink grapefruit, lemon, basil and tea leaf. Read more

Quick Ways to Subside Caregiver Role Strain

Tips for Caring for the CaregiverSome of you reading this post may be wondering what in the world caregiver role strain is, while others know all to well what it is and may be wondering what, if anything, they can do about it.

First and foremost a caregiver is simply someone who provides care for another person, such as a mom for her child with special needs, a nurse, a grown child caring for their chronically ill parent, etc.… The University of Wisconsin describes caregiver role strain as follows, “when caregivers find it hard to perform their roles or feel stressed by situations such as: financial burden, increased responsibility, change in family life, role change” (www.uwhealth.org, 2013).

Now one might be saying, “Courtney, don’t almost all of us fit into that category?!” Read more

#iheartmynailart Sally Hansen

Sally Hansen beach colors

The beach. Water, sand and sunlight have always been my inspiration. I grew up in Rhode Island and spent most of my time at the beach. Now I live in the Poconos, but instead of the ocean, I have the lake here as my refuge. It seems that surf and sand were never meant to be a long distance relationship for me. It’s the sparkle of the sunlight, the shimmering water, the texture of the sand and the bright, cheery colors that you see at the beach that were the inspiration behind my #IHeartMyNailArt Sally Hansen + Walgreens party for me. Freeman Charcoal and Black Sugar Facial Polishing Mask Review

Even in my late 30′s I get acne. Sometimes nothing for months at all, sometimes repeatedly for months on end. Does this happen to you?

I learned a long time ago that charcoal (sulfur) is really effective at banishing blemishes, so I was immediately smitten with MAC Cosmetics Volcanic Ash Exfoliator. But not everyone (i.e. Me) can afford a $28 tube all of the time, so I was thrilled when Freeman came out with their Charcoal & Black Sugar Facial Polishing Mask ($4). I can tell you in complete honesty, that this is a fantastic MAC dupe. Read more

Summer Makeup Must-Haves: Primer and Waterproof Mascara

Summer #Makeup Must-Haves

Summer is a lovely time to get outside and enjoy the beauty of nature, but it can be a tough time for a well-made face. Makeup enthusiasts are forced to adapt in order to keep looking their best. In spite of hot weather, humidity and sweat, there’s one thing that can really help makeup keep from sliding off while it simultaneously protects and moisturizes, and that’s primer.

Think of your face as a canvas; making your canvas as uniform as possible will only help the application process. Not just for waterproofing, they’re used to control shine, minimize pores or scars, and provide a base for your foundation. Luckily, primers have become increasingly popular of late, so you can find one for virtually every part of your face. The best place to start is a general face primer. Choose one that fits your individual skin type, or look for one that is suitable for all skin types. The best face primers provide moisturization, anti-oxidants and vitamins in addition to smoothing your face canvas and helping makeup layers from sweating off or streaking. If you like, pick one that has an SPF, for extra protection from the elements. Read more
