It's a common beauty myth - switch to a sulfate free body wash and you have to give up that luxurious lather that makes pampering so much fun.
But it's not true. Sure, you won't be able to bury yourself under a mountain of bubbles, but you don't have to Read more

Last night I had the opportunity to debut myself in a new role: as West Coast Correspondent for A Girl’s Gotta Spa! Thanks to Shannon (my “casting director” if you will) I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of the Los Angeles location of Fig & Olive restaurant, and it was a thing of beauty all the way around!
Each night of the three-part grand opening extravaganza featured one of Executive Chef Pascal Loran’s three main regional culinary influences (France, Spain and Italy) Last night was Italian Night and was sponsored by Lamborghini and Fendi, with hair by Frederick Fekkai. The Italian-influenced appetizers were to DIE for (mozzarella stuffed cherry tomatoes, parmesan risotto, grilled shrimp crostini, and many more extravagant meat-based appys that looked amazing but I couldn’t eat!) while the loft space and gorgeous lighting created the perfect setting for models wearing looks from luxurious Italian house of fashion, Fendi.
The looks were chic, colorful, and crisp and the models were styled similarly with sleek parted ponytails and dewy-fresh faces. I was happy to see the creamy coral shades on all the model’s lips, as I was rocking a bright orange lip myself that night! The orange-instead-of-red lip color is my favorite new makeup trend for Spring, and it was nice to see how surprisingly wearable it is on different complexions. The models all looked gorgeous!
Fig & Olive proved to be a fun as it was elegant, delicious as it was stylish …and I will certainly be back!
Lead make up artist at Philosophy Di Alberta Ferretti, Lucia Pieroni for MAC went to Goldie Hawn in the 60’s for her inspiration. The look was a very fresh face. Glowing fresh skin, a soft pale pink metallic lipstick and “loads of mascara”…but not so much that it looked clumpy. It was more of a nod to the 60’s without being completely 60’s.
The make up look at Alice & Olivia was all about the punky eye. According to lead makeup artist , Polly Osmond for M.A.C, there was no specific reference for the look, it was just the “street version of the punky eye.” To achieve the look; Fluidline in Blacktrack was used on the lids to create a thicker/rounder line around the eyes, the brows were penciled in, Haute & Naughty Lash Mascara on the top lashes, a bit of highlighter on the cheeks and Runway Lipstick on the lips. A lot of edginess on the eyes and a very glamorous lip. Read more
Fresh, luminous, gorgeous skin was on display at Tommy Hilfiger. Moisturizer with concealer as needed was applied to the skin, as well as Blot Pressed Powder to the t-zone for a matte finish. “The Perfect Cheek” Blush was applied to the apples of the cheek. Groundwork Paint Pot was applied to the lids, crease and under the eye, a copper gloss was applied  on top of that and Clear Lipglass layered on top of that. Lip Conditioner was applied to the lips to complete the look, which was very “All American”…exactly what Tommy Hilfiger exemplifies. Read more
Lead makeup artist at ADAM, Romy for MAC Cosmetics took the attention to the eyes. Black creme liner (a full, thick line) was applied to the lids in a winged shape along with two coats of Haute & Naughty Lash Mascara to the upper lashes only. Face And Body Foundation as well as concealer was applied to the face as needed, on the cheeks Posey and Laid Back Blush Cream were mixed and applied to the apples and the lips were left very subdued with just lip conditioner applied using the fingertips. Read more
Meryl Streep in Out of Africa was the inspiration referenced by lead make up artist for MAC Cosmetics Carole Colombani at Suno. The look was feminine and soft as well as graphic and modern.  The same palette was used for the lips and cheeks, Haute & Naughty Lash mascara was applied just to the upper lashes, a beige/moleskin shadow on the eyes, Teddy eyeliner (which is an eye kohl) on the lid,  a brush dipped in water first then dipped in color on the lower lash line for a softer look and the skin was kept very natural with just moisturizer and concealer where needed.
I absolutely loved this look, it was clean, fresh, feminine and seemed to be the most wearable…on an everyday “I wish I had something to dress up for at least twice a week but that lifestyle keeps alluding me” basis.
Malcolm McLarens’ 1984 single Madame Butterfly inspired the look at Imitation. The look exuded both sensuality and sexuality; it was all about the eyes and lips. In the words of lead makeup artist Nadine Luke for MAC Cosmetics, you “would want to look like that.”
The holidays have finally hit and parties abound this month! I know that I am not a natural when it comes to applying my makeup and I often turn to my makeup artist friends for helpful beauty tips. This time I chose to tap Carmindy from TLC’s What Not to Wear for her 3 best holiday beauty tips.
1- Get your face and body glowing by applying my Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired By Carmindy Luminizing Face Primer. This light reflecting cream will add radiance to your skin and create a smooth as glass finish to the skin. Yesterday I had the pleasure of going backstage at the Chris Benz fashion show to talk with him and Daniel Martin regarding their collaboration for Lancome‘s 5th lipstick in their POUT-A-PORTER series aptly named “Chris & Tell.” This coral colored lipstick will be available Spring 2010, but Lancome is already accepting names for the waiting list at their upper west side boutique.
