I love a good dry shampoo. I love shiny hair. I also love volume. However, on any given day, those three things sometimes do not happen all at once. At least, not with a little help.
Everyone who knows me, knows that I do not wash my hair everyday. Dry shampoo has been a staple in my beauty routine since some expert hairstylists I met a few years back told me that shampooing every day was a definite no-no to achieve healthy hair and a healthy scalp. Some dry shampoos haven’t worked well for me, while others have achieved must-have status among my hair care products. Herbal Essences new Naked Dry Shampoo is on the must-have list. Read more

I always love the first few months of the new year. Not because it is fresh with possibilities, at least not when it comes to New Year’s resolutions, but because it is award season! This is the time of year when the red carpet is ablaze with hot trends, inspiring hair and makeup looks and plenty of oh I’d love to duplicate that moments. While The Golden Globes and Oscar’s are filled with elegant and demur looks, music is my first love and I’ll take GRAMMY-inspired beauty any day.
True, the looks on the red carpet at the GRAMMY’s are usually cutting edge, maybe a little more revealing than you’d like (at my age showing my arms from the elbows down is as revealing as I’ll go), but there are plenty of commonalities that all celebrities follow in order to have a successful camera-ready red carpet look. I’ll break them down, that way you, too, can follow these same steps for your big event and leave the paparazzi (aka your husband, boyfriend, significant other) vying for your attention.
Beauty Prep: These are the things you do leading up to the big event – things you need to plan out in advance.

Thanks to all of the travelling I did during the holidays, my hair ended up ringing in the new year in quite the state of despair. Going from LA to Orlando to Minneapolis to Tahoe had caused my hair to become very angry and rebel. It was dry, frizzy and downright lackluster…not what I wanted for my hair in the new year so I was pretty anxious to try anything that promised healthy, hydrated, shiny, smooth hair.

I am now absolutely addicted to products aimed at improving the health of my hair. Although my experience with these types of products is somewhat limited (I’ve tried two thus far), I know that I love the way they make my scalp feel and if they are promoting healthy hair growth at the same time then it’s a “win win” for me. The scalp care products I’ve tried so far are a scalp toner and a scalp mask and I loved them both. I can now add an Exfoliating Hair and Scalp Treatment to that list.
I’ve used the Salon Series By Ouidad Exfoliating Hair and Scalp Treatment three times so far and I am seriously hooked. The Mediterranean Bay Leaf Exfoliating Hair & Scalp Treatment contains a natural Alpha Hydroxy Acid complex of sugar cane, lemon and apple extracts to gently exfoliate the scalp, as well as naturally derived bamboo for manual exfoliation. The Scalp Treatment has a very natural, pleasant scent that is soothing and relaxing when on my scalp, it definitely smells like a high end spa treatment of some sort. The bamboo exfoliating granules in the treatment are very gentle, but they feel like they do a pretty thorough job of exfoliating my scalp. The directions recommend massaging over your scalp for 1-3 minutes after shampooing, but I like to let it sit there for about ten minutes on my scalp, it just feels so good! Even though I’ve only used it three times, I’ve certainly noticed less product build up in my hair and on my scalp, which is one of the issues that this treatment helps to eradicate along with scalp dryness and overactive sebum which can all lead to blocked follicles, dull hair and diminished hair growth. A few different people have mentioned Mixed Chicks hair products to me on a number of occasions and I have honestly been meaning to try it, but just never got around to it until just recently. After feeling like my regular shampoo and conditioner were no longer performing as well as they have in the past, I decided to try something new and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give Mixed Chicks a try. I opted for the Sulfate Free Shampoo and Deep Conditioner as my naturally curly hair has been feeling really dry lately thanks to regular hot yoga attendance.
The Sulfate Free Shampoo is supposed to mildly cleanse my hair without stripping my hair of its natural oils and the Deep Conditioner is supposed to penetrate, reconstruct and restore my dry hair. After trying both for two weeks, I was pretty bummed that I didn’t get around to trying them sooner. Read more
Lately I’ve been hearing more and more about how important a healthy scalp is for promoting the growth of healthy hair. As I am constantly on a quest for hair that is stronger, shinier and healthier, I took it upon myself to promote my own healthy hair growth beginning with my scalp by using Philip Kingsley’s Stimulating Scalp Mask and Scalp Toner.
The Stimulating Scalp Mask is a vitamin and mineral rich mask that encourages blood circulation. It contains ingredients that aid and strengthen cell development, binds moisture to hair and scalp and energizes and improves the condition of the scalp and hair by helping the formation of collagen, keratin and elastin. The mask comes in an easy to use tube with a tiny nozzle that makes application a breeze and not at all messy. I love the cooling, tingling sensation that the mask creates while on my scalp. My scalp felt soothed, energized and refreshed after using the mask. Read more
Without question, aside from how much sleep you get, the outcome of your hair each morning can determine whether or not you are going to have a good day.
Honestly. If my hair looks amazing, I simply can’t stop trying to capture a glimpse of myself in the mirror (something that rarely happens otherwise), I take endless selfies to update my Facebook, G+, LinkedIn and Twitter profiles, and my attitude can’t help but be positive throughout the day. Great looking hair is where it’s at.

During the hot and humid summer months, one of the best ways to style your hair without actually doing much to it is by using a sea salt texturizing spray. Personally, I’m a big fan of the “I just went to the beach” look. I’ve been trying out Got2b Beach Trippin’ Salt-Infusion Waving Spray (also known as beach spray) for the past couple of weeks because my hair just can’t handle the humidity and I’m obsessed with beaches waves. After my boyfriend somehow lost my beloved blowout lotion and I was forced to use my regular body lotion to blow dry my hair for a few days, thanks to me not being able to locate a salon, beauty store or dry bar in my area that carries the brand I normally use, he went out (all on his own) and bought me the MoroccanOil Hydrating Styling Cream. I guess he felt really bad because every time I blow dried my hair, I would rave about how much I loved the blowout lotion I was using.
To be honest I was not at all excited about trying the MoroccanOil Hydrating Styling Cream, but since it was sweet that he took the time to go out and get it, I thought I would give it a try and I’m pretty ecstatic that I decided to stop pouting and try it. Read more
