If you color treat or heat style your hair, you’ll want to indulge in Phyrra’s Pretty Little Elixir Hair Masque. This vegan, cruelty free and paraben free hair masque is the brain child of fellow beauty blogger, Phyrra. Phyrra’s Pretty Little Elixir Hair Masque was designed for heat treated, chemically treated, or dyed hair that’s dull or dry. It has nourishing ingredients to reduce the signs of external damage and restore hair’s softness, moisture and luster.
You can apply the mask to damp hair and cover with a hot towel for 10 minutes to allow it to absorb overnight if your hair is extra frizzy and dry. Simply work it from root to tip using a wide tooth comb, wrap, leave it on for 10 minutes (or overnight) and rinse with cool water.

If you’re anything like me, whether you’re searching for the right shade to color your hair at home or to request of your hairstylist at the salon, seeking the perfect hair color is a priority. (There was this one time when my hair wound up a weird shade of red….) But it goes beyond finding the right color by simply saying, “I like this shade of red.”
According to Patrick McIvor, expert hair colorist and Artistic and TechniCultural Director for Goldwell/KMS California, to find the perfect color, three factors must always be considered. Read more
In winter, colder temperatures and indoor heating deplete moisture in the air, which can leave hair parched, so it’s important to replenish moisture to prevent breakage and promote shine. Ruth Roche, Artistic Ambassador for Pureology Serious Colour Care offers 5 tips for getting the glow back.
1. Get a good trim to remove frayed ends, they tend to be dryer and more damaged than the rest of the hair strand.
2. Use a clarifying treatment to remove styling product buildup that contributes to lack of moisture and dullness. Pureology Purify Shampoo is a great one – it’s sulfate-free and safe for color-treated hair. Read more

Thin hair, fine hair, medium hair, thick hair…we all have one common enemy: frizz.
However, those with thick hair get a double whammy, frizz + an overly full looking coif. A Girl’s Gotta Spa! Facebook fans asked,
“What types of hair products work best on thick hair to make it smoother, less frizzy and not looking overly full?”
Expert hairstylist trusted by celebrities, Sam Villa, responds: Read more
I love a good dry shampoo. I love shiny hair. I also love volume. However, on any given day, those three things sometimes do not happen all at once. At least, not with a little help.
Everyone who knows me, knows that I do not wash my hair everyday. Dry shampoo has been a staple in my beauty routine since some expert hairstylists I met a few years back told me that shampooing every day was a definite no-no to achieve healthy hair and a healthy scalp. Some dry shampoos haven’t worked well for me, while others have achieved must-have status among my hair care products. Herbal Essences new Naked Dry Shampoo is on the must-have list. Read more

I always love the first few months of the new year. Not because it is fresh with possibilities, at least not when it comes to New Year’s resolutions, but because it is award season! This is the time of year when the red carpet is ablaze with hot trends, inspiring hair and makeup looks and plenty of oh I’d love to duplicate that moments. While The Golden Globes and Oscar’s are filled with elegant and demur looks, music is my first love and I’ll take GRAMMY-inspired beauty any day.
True, the looks on the red carpet at the GRAMMY’s are usually cutting edge, maybe a little more revealing than you’d like (at my age showing my arms from the elbows down is as revealing as I’ll go), but there are plenty of commonalities that all celebrities follow in order to have a successful camera-ready red carpet look. I’ll break them down, that way you, too, can follow these same steps for your big event and leave the paparazzi (aka your husband, boyfriend, significant other) vying for your attention.
Beauty Prep: These are the things you do leading up to the big event – things you need to plan out in advance.

Thanks to all of the travelling I did during the holidays, my hair ended up ringing in the new year in quite the state of despair. Going from LA to Orlando to Minneapolis to Tahoe had caused my hair to become very angry and rebel. It was dry, frizzy and downright lackluster…not what I wanted for my hair in the new year so I was pretty anxious to try anything that promised healthy, hydrated, shiny, smooth hair.

I am now absolutely addicted to products aimed at improving the health of my hair. Although my experience with these types of products is somewhat limited (I’ve tried two thus far), I know that I love the way they make my scalp feel and if they are promoting healthy hair growth at the same time then it’s a “win win” for me. The scalp care products I’ve tried so far are a scalp toner and a scalp mask and I loved them both. I can now add an Exfoliating Hair and Scalp Treatment to that list.
I’ve used the Salon Series By Ouidad Exfoliating Hair and Scalp Treatment three times so far and I am seriously hooked. The Mediterranean Bay Leaf Exfoliating Hair & Scalp Treatment contains a natural Alpha Hydroxy Acid complex of sugar cane, lemon and apple extracts to gently exfoliate the scalp, as well as naturally derived bamboo for manual exfoliation. The Scalp Treatment has a very natural, pleasant scent that is soothing and relaxing when on my scalp, it definitely smells like a high end spa treatment of some sort. The bamboo exfoliating granules in the treatment are very gentle, but they feel like they do a pretty thorough job of exfoliating my scalp. The directions recommend massaging over your scalp for 1-3 minutes after shampooing, but I like to let it sit there for about ten minutes on my scalp, it just feels so good! Even though I’ve only used it three times, I’ve certainly noticed less product build up in my hair and on my scalp, which is one of the issues that this treatment helps to eradicate along with scalp dryness and overactive sebum which can all lead to blocked follicles, dull hair and diminished hair growth. A few different people have mentioned Mixed Chicks hair products to me on a number of occasions and I have honestly been meaning to try it, but just never got around to it until just recently. After feeling like my regular shampoo and conditioner were no longer performing as well as they have in the past, I decided to try something new and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give Mixed Chicks a try. I opted for the Sulfate Free Shampoo and Deep Conditioner as my naturally curly hair has been feeling really dry lately thanks to regular hot yoga attendance.
The Sulfate Free Shampoo is supposed to mildly cleanse my hair without stripping my hair of its natural oils and the Deep Conditioner is supposed to penetrate, reconstruct and restore my dry hair. After trying both for two weeks, I was pretty bummed that I didn’t get around to trying them sooner. Read more
