A lot has happened since 2005. A Girl's Gotta Spa! began as a beauty blog intended to help other women, short on time, discover meaningful reviews and tips that they could incorporate into their daily lives. It was also a way for me to connect socially with women in Read more
Feet are always in need of some restoration and hydration no matter the season. Whether you’ve had a long day at the office, you’re suffering from dry flip-flop feet, or you’re trying to break in a new pair of heels, there is nothing a DIY at-home foot scrub can’t Read more
Teen skin issues are in full force in my house. Thankfully my sons have taken an interest in caring for their skin and always come to me with questions about how to clear up blemishes, moisturize and cleanse their skin, and for my oldest, asked my husband to show Read more
With the change of season it takes an extra dose of effort (and nutrients) to ward off dreaded colds. The Umstead Hotel and Spa (Cary, N.C.) is treating spa guests to a soothing seasonal Lemon Ginger Lavender Elixir that will be more pleasant on the palate than cough syrup!

When you combine gorgeous colors with amazing wear you have a winner. And ladies we have a winner in Pretty Serious nail polish. As of this writing I have 3 of these polishes and 4 more flying to me from Australia. I loved the two I wore so much that I couldn’t wait to order again.
The first one I wore is Atomic Brain from the collection “They Came From Outer Space.” It wore so beautifully and perfectly that after 8 days I cancelled a manicure appointment to see how long it would look good. By day 12 I saw growth only, that’s it. The polish looked as good as new. Atomic Brain at first looks like a pretty purple metallic but then the light shines and you see subtle shimmer in shades of green, pink, gold and purple. Read more
With summer fast approaching right around the corner and warmer weather, I know I’ll be spending a lot more time outside. With that being said, I like to keep my makeup simple and easy. A sun-kissed face may give us the color we need, but when it’s unbearably hot, you sweat off all of your makeup. I’m already starting to get irritable just thinking about it!
Urban Decay’s foray into nail polish starts with Naked, and features a mix of six shades (Naked, Sidecar, Toasted, Smog, Hustle, Creep) in a cream, shimmers and glitters. How do they match up to the palettes?
Modern Family has to be one of the best written TV series currently on air. The characters are hilarious and the situations they get in are equally as entertaining. I love that each episode has a lesson or some small heart-tugging moment among all the laughs. Nicole by OPI launched 14 new nail lacquers inspired by the award-winning comedy.
The nail line features shades ranging from more nude colors that would appeal to Julie Bowen’s no-nonsense Claire, to a sparkly violet shade meant to represent Gloria’s (Sofia Vergara) more flamboyant look.
“Modern Family is not only one of the funniest shows on television, it features a great ensemble cast of rich characters that inspired a range of shades, from pastel hues like sea foam green and periwinkle to brighter colors of cobalt and red-violet,” says Suzy Weiss-Fischmann, Nicole by OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “From studious Alex to bombshell Gloria, to classic (and neurotic) Claire, to flirty Haley, there are shades to represent each of these uniquely fabulous women – and everyone else in the blended family.”
Spring colors, glitter and a secret crystal love note – what more could a girl want?
Valentine’s Day is less than a month away, and it’s time to start making reservations, ordering flowers for delivery and getting that perfect outfit. What the what? Your paramour failed to do any of this for you last year? You know what they say – Love is blind. Or at least it needs to be. If you want a discreet reminder to keep your cool during any disappointments this holiday, try my Braille Nail. The tactile texture reads “I Love You” when felt up.
For someone who wore nothing but French tips for years, I’m really embracing the festive sparkly finishes in nail polish this season. The two polishes pictured above are both new from Revlon. The red polish on the left is Ruby Ribbon and has not only glitter but tiny bits of gold tinsel. It works beautifully on it’s own or layered over other solid colored polishes. I tried to capture the complexity 0f this polish but my camera skills are lacking. Suffice to say the bar glitter, sparkle and density of Ruby Ribbon is stunning and it definitely looks like a much more expensive polish. Read more
Great news for those of you that love your Gel Manicures! Sally Hansen recently introduced an easy to use, economical, at-home Gel Manicure Nail Polish Kit that costs less than $65. When you get a gel manicure at a salon, you can pay anywhere from $30 to $50 and up PER manicure. With this at-home kit, you can do up to 10 manicures that will last at least a week or more.
Now, admittedly, I had never had a gel manicure before this, so I didn’t have a lot to compare it to. That said, it wasn’t as hard as I anticipated it would be. It took me about an hour from start to finish and I don’t think it would take me nearly as long the second time around. The first 15 minutes was reading the enclosed instructions to make sure I knew what I was doing before I started. Always best to venture into these things well prepared! Read more
If you are looking for an impressive looking nail look to wear to your holiday event, you may want to check out Ciate’s Sequin Manicure Kit. Affordably priced at $15, your nails will draw attention…maybe even more so than your dress.
I had the opportunity to try out Ciate’s Black & Gold Sequin Manicure. The kit looks simple enough with a bottle of sequins, a clear base coat for them to adhere to, a small brush to swipe away the excess and a plastic tray for the sequins. Expect that this manicure will take about 40 minutes from start to finish. Read more
Most nail polishes, if left to their own devices without a base or top coat, will basically chip in under 24 hours. So when COVERGIRL sent me a challenge to try their Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss ($5.49), claiming that without a top coat, this polish wouldn’t chip for up to 7 days, I was skeptical.
