Nothing says complete and utter relaxation to me quite like indulging in a massage, especially a 75 minute long massage, followed by total body exfoliation, body mask and a luxuriating soak in a warm flower-filled bath. This is how I spent two hours at a spa in Bali thanks to the suggestion of a woman I was lucky enough to share a taxi ride with. As soon as I got out of the taxi I knew where I was headed to next: Bodyworks spa in Seminyak, Bali. Read more
The first time my fiancé described a Balinese Creambath to me, I swear I heard harps playing and birds gayly chirping in the background as he waxed poetic about what sounded positively heavenly. Now four years later we are in Bali and the first order of business for me was to experience a Creambath first hand. There are a ton of spas and salons that offer this service, but I wanted to experience the specific treatment he had described to me exactly the way he described it, which led us to Amo Spa in Seminyak, Bali. Whether you’re a pro athlete or you just work out for fun, physical activity is always accompanied by the risk of injury. According to the CDC, more than 10,000 Americans are admitted to ER rooms every day from injuries related to sports, recreational activities, and exercise. The CDC also reports that more than half of these injuries are preventable.
Before doctor’s visits, prescriptions, or even physical therapy, it should be said that Sports Massages serve to treat athletic injuries of every caliber, and in many cases, act as a preventative measure against them. Massage therapy isn’t new — especially for serious athletes — but it’s still underutilized by the general public. Read more
When you visit a spa, you want your entire body to be pampered. Your tired muscles are massaged, your face is rejuvenated and perfectly moisturized, and your hands are elegantly manicured. If you pay all this attention to the rest of your body, then why not do the same for your feet as well? A spa pedicure can be a truly special experience, particularly if you know what to look for and where to go.
However, the sad truth is that spa pedicures vary considerably in quality. (I totally see you nodding in agreement.) In some spas, a pedicure doesn’t amount to much more than having your toenails buffed and polished (been there, done that), whereas other spas provide an amazing range of treatments. So, exactly what should you look for when you are choosing a spa to look after your feet? Just what is the perfect spa pedicure? Read more
Seasonal Affective Disorder, also known as SAD, is a type of depression that happens during the same time each year. While it can happen at any time of year, it is most often associated with Fall and Winter (you’ve heard the term winter blues, right?) This is due to lack of sunlight which of course results in a Vitamin D deficiency, it’s getting darker sooner which throws off your internal clock, remaining indoors due to cooler or bad weather (hello cabin fever!) and what I call a “lack of an interesting landscape”; in other words everything lacks the color, vibrancy and fragrances of the warmer months.
I’m bringing this up because in the last few days I kept remarking to my husband, “I feel so tired all the time,” and “I feel like I have no energy,” and wanting to eat every carb in sight. Personally, nothing has changed for me to bring this on. I’m very happily married, am passionate about my career, enjoy my sons and so on. He then brought it to my attention that since the weather has gotten colder, I’ve been outdoors less; it’s getting darker earlier, etc. And then it clicked. During the days of getting my degree in Psychology, I had learned about SAD and recognized the symptoms.
Beginning to feel the same as I am? Here is a SAD check list (as listed by the MAYO Clinic): Read more
I came across local Pennsylvania brand, Makes Scents, when I visited The Spa at The Hotel Hershey earlier this year. An all natural spa line, Makes Scents bath and body line smells and feels rich and decadent.
Their seasonal Citrus Grove Body Glow Body Scrub contains pure Israeli and Mediterranean Sea salts perfectly mixed with pure citrus essential oils and green tea extract. The scrub literally looks like a juicy, ripe fruit and the fragrance is out of this world. While your roughest dry skin spots are tamed into something softer and smoother, the scent will awaken your senses. It’s definitely a mood altering scent! Read more
I’m always on the look out for new types of facials, especially ones that not only remove impurities and deeply cleanse, but that also lift and tone (like the NuFace Lifting and Toning Facial that I had at Woodhouse Day Spa.)
As I’m getting older, I’m definitely beginning to see a loss of elasticity in my skin. I recently came across Susan MacPherson, founder of Beaute Therapies Medical Spa in West Palm Beach, Florida who brought back a unique facial that she learned about in Italy: Maschera Al Ferro aka the Iron Mask Facial.
Used by celebrities to get that “red carpet look”, the exclusive facial is offered at Beaute Therapies Medical Spa – the Iron Mask Facial uses advanced magnet technology and magnetic fibers to deep cleanse, lift and firm skin. I asked Ms. MacPherson some questions to get a better understanding about this facial. Read more

You can have all three with Lavanila’s The Healthy Candle in Vanilla Lavender. The candle is 100% natural and burns clean without releasing harmful pollutants, toxins, or soot into the air.
