If you’re anything like me, one of the sources you look to for beauty advice, tips and tricks is magazines. Of course, I also buy them for the fashion, celebrities and “other” types of advice (thanks Cosmopolitan), but I get especially pumped about reading and trying anything beauty related, after all this is advice from THE beauty experts.
In the January/February issue of Health Magazine there was an article called “Soften Up All Over,” that was all about how to stay hydrated all over during the brutal winter months. My skin tends to be pretty dry and especially more so during the winter months, so I thought I would try one of the tips on how to keep my body moisturized. The tip basically suggested that applying lotion to my skin before I get into the shower would prevent the drying effects of soap and hot water. Looking for a “hydrator with ceramides or hyalronic acid to help skin retain moisture and re-apply post shower” was also recommended. So I put this beauty tip to the A Girl’s Gotta Spa! test.
I checked every lotion I had handy, but nothing I had contained ceramides or hyaluronic acid and I didn’t want to go out and buy yet another bottle of moisturizer so I decided to use what I had handy. I have been using The Body Shop Mango Body Butter for about ten years now because it is the only moisturizer I’ve tried that feels like it’s keeping my skin moisturized and I love the sheen it gives to my skin, so I applied it and headed into to shower. I have to admit when I got out of the shower my skin did not as feel moisture depleted as it normally would have, but I still definitely needed to apply moisturizer again.
I would definitely try this maybe once a week, but doing this every time I showered would get expensive since I would be applying lotion pre and post shower. I actually get the same results with my L’Occitane Shower Oil and only have to use moisturizer once so I think I will stick with that, but all in all still a great beauty tip! Have you tried it? Did it work for you? (And which moisturizer did you find that contained ceramide and hyaluronic acid?)
