My beauty regimen isn’t complete if I don’t start off with a well moisturized body regardless if it’s below 10 degrees or a sizzling 90. You can look like a million bucks in that cute dress, but if your skin looks itchy and dry, it ruins the whole outfit and not to mention, a good time.
Living in Minnesota, it can get a bit tricky finding the right body moisturizer with the change of seasons. In winter, you need something a bit more moisturizing, but come the hotter months and humidity you don’t want to use that same heavy moisturizer and feel like you took a bath in cooking oil. Finding a light but effective body moisturizer can sometimes be a bit overwhelming with all the choices out there so you (me) may end up grabbing the one with the pretty packaging only to find out that the smell is way off or it feels tacky on your skin. Pretty packaging doesn’t necessarily means effective…
As I’m trying to be more health conscious and move towards products that are natural and/or organic, it could be a bit tricky finding products that are what they claim to be. I was fortunate enough to be sent a tub of Andalou Kukui Cocoa Body Butter by the Andalou Naturals folks; their ingredients are natural and fair trade, with a minimum 70% certified organic content, using “Fruit Stem Cell Science to Renew, Repair and Regenerate.” No Kidding! It says so right on the bottle and website. They’re a green company that rejects animal testing and strives to be environmentally responsible.
So being the impatient gal that I am, I immediately opened the package and was instantly enamored with the smell. The yummy cocoa smell reminds me of my sister’s homemade hot cocoa…it’s like having your nostrils being surrounded by Christmas candy! It looks heavy but after sticking my fingers in there, it has a whipped texture and feels light. Smells heavenly, check! Feels good, double check! Now to actually try it and see if it works…
I personally think if you’re going to try a new moisturizer for face or body, you can’t just slather it on, there’s some prep work involved. For me, it’s using a really good body scrub to get rid of all the dead skin; especially targeting those problem areas, like your knees and elbows. Afterwards, I smoothed on the Andalou body butter starting with my freshly shaved legs. My legs loves it! Instead of sitting on top of your skin like some body butters, this product felt like it melted right in. I give my knees and elbows a little extra TLC and my skin felt soft and supple. It’s not oily or tacky, doesn’t sit on your skin and leaves residue on your clothes and even better, it was a humid day in good ole Minnesota and my skin did not feel greasy in the humidity! The smell lasted all day, but was not heavy or overwhelming; a very light cocoa scent. You don’t need to use a large amount as it spreads evenly.
For the price ($13.95!), you get an eight ounce jar of wholesome goodness and will feel really good about using it as from every online order, a $1 will be donated to A Force of Nature. If Kukui Cocoa is not your thing, they also have Lavender Shea and Passion Fruit scented body butters. Which I will of course be definitely trying! Have you tried it?
