Today’s modern polishes promise to dry faster than a speeding bullet, but which ones actually save the day?
Top manicurists have known about pro top coats for years – those specially formulated clear coats that left lacquer intact for an extended wear manicure. Compatible with nearly every brand, topcoats like INM and Seche Vite give shiny, rock hard results. Now, there are number of launches for those that like to do their nails at home and mimic a faster drying salon service. Each has a different strength. Let’s check a few of them out, shall we?
The Consumer Brands
Straight to market products
This line boasts a dry time of 5 minutes (although you do need a dry base coat before you begin, so factor that in for a still amaze fast dry time)
Pros: Sold as system; 100+ color choices; incredible high shine
Cons: Sold as system; sweet chemical smell; must follow as directed for best results
Freedom Polymer Top Coat also boasts 5 minute dry time due to “unique, light curing formula” (which means you can dry by sunlight).
Pros: Topcoat compatible with other lines of polish, slick looking black packaging protects product from natural UV exposure
Cons: The saying “Freedom ain’t free” also applies here: $18 for .27 fluid ounces
Pro to Consumer Offerings
Available for purchase or as a service from select beauty professionals
Vinylux Weekly Nail Polish has an 8.5 minute total dry time and is natural light curing (no UV lamp required).
Pros: 30 of the 62 colors match existing CND Shellac colors; sold as a system with fast drying Vinylux polish; no base coat required
Cons: Sold as a system; most colors look best with three coats; as this is a polish, it is shiny but will not be as shiny as Shellac
With a high gloss polymer top coat in the collection, it is actually the polishes themselves that are the foundation for fast drying fingers
Pros: 60 + colors match the Cuccio Colours Veener (sog) collection; highly pigmented one coat application; silky, easy glide application
Cons: While Cuccio is a worldwide brand, these new releases are currently only available at shows and online
