Summer is a lovely time to get outside and enjoy the beauty of nature, but it can be a tough time for a well-made face. Makeup enthusiasts are forced to adapt in order to keep looking their best. In spite of hot weather, humidity and sweat, there’s one thing that can really help makeup keep from sliding off while it simultaneously protects and moisturizes, and that’s primer.
Think of your face as a canvas; making your canvas as uniform as possible will only help the application process. Not just for waterproofing, they’re used to control shine, minimize pores or scars, and provide a base for your foundation. Luckily, primers have become increasingly popular of late, so you can find one for virtually every part of your face. The best place to start is a general face primer. Choose one that fits your individual skin type, or look for one that is suitable for all skin types. The best face primers provide moisturization, anti-oxidants and vitamins in addition to smoothing your face canvas and helping makeup layers from sweating off or streaking. If you like, pick one that has an SPF, for extra protection from the elements.
One of the best waterproof choices for summertime makeup regimens is mascara. If you choose to make just one change to your look for the warmer months, make it a waterproof mascara, as it is the single part of your well put together face that can go south the fastest, leaving you with raccoon eyes. Combat this with a lash primer. Not only will it help your mascara hold fast and keep from running, a lash primer will help waterproof mascara go on smoother, minimizing clumps and pulled lashes. The multiplEYE Enhancing Primer from Tarte is a good example; it is specially formulated with proteins to assist in lash length and growth. The switch from your everyday mascara to a waterproof version can be pretty painless; most makeup producers are happy to provide a waterproof type of their popular mascaras.
Because primers are crafted with water resistance and staying power in mind, they can be a little harsher to sensitive skin, and also somewhat more difficult to remove. Prepare for this by choosing an eye makeup remover expressly concocted for waterproof makeup. Again, choose something that is appropriate for your skin type. These too can provide moisture as they cleanse, however, you should try and find one that doesn’t leave any undesirable residues.
