As I’m about to have a baby in a week, I can’t help but think about how, two years from now, we’ll be making another transition with our family – my oldest will be going to college. It’s hard to believe that while I’ll still be changing diapers with one child, I’ll be sending off another into the world.
It reminds me of this time 23 years ago, I was preparing to start college life. Seems like a lifetime ago and I’m sure my kids would chime in that it was “back in the olden days.” But what held true back then, still holds true now. Confidence is everything when beginning a new venture. Would you agree?
I was definitely obsessed with lotions and potions back when I was 18 and going into my first year of college. (And nothing has changed.) I tried to re-create some of my necessities when I went to college in the basket above at my local Rite Aid. My priorities definitely had more to do with feeling good about myself – hydrated skin, smooth legs and feet, smelling good – than passing the math entrance exam. (Which, took 3 tries and the help of a friend tutoring me.)
For me, confidence was found in having a clean and neat appearance – it made me feel like I was always putting my best self forward. Taking pride in my appearance was important, and since my future career (or so I thought) was to be in Psychology, I wanted that to come across clearly when you looked at me. I wanted to leave college with a diploma in one hand and a job offer in another (which thankfully happened.)
The funny thing is, back then I didn’t dare skip shaving, not even in the Winter. I was still taking dance lessons and took a few as courses at my college… so hair-free legs were a must. Now that I’m a mom, I know that a good razor is definitely something that should be part of the care package you send your son or daughter off to college with. It’s one of the simple things that are often forgotten about when it comes to college life… maybe more so for guys than girls (as a mom of all boys, I’m taking a wild guess based on experience.)
I love that the Schick Quattro has 4 titanium-coated blades for a close shave (which means you can skip a day before you start seeing stuble again.) I also like that the Schick Hydro Silk Razor has 5 curve-sensing blades with a water-activated moisturizing serum surrounding them for not only incredible closeness, but hydration for your skin as well. Naturally, the fact that I personally use Schick means that I trust their razors for my oldest as well.
Right now at Rite Aid there’s a BOGO free Schick razor sale going on, which is great – one for you, one for your college student. Save yourself some cash where you can, because we all know how expensive college is!
What will you be sending in a care package for your college student?
