If this is how your skin is looking and feeling after a long hard winter, I have a remedy for you! Body oils!
I’ve been a believer in the power of body oils versus body lotions since I tried my first one. Surprisingly body oils moisturize better than lotions and they don’t feel greasy like a body butter can. Body lotions can feel too heavy on the skin especially in the summer. A good body oil will absorb quickly leaving your skin feeling soft and hydrated all day long. I’ve also had great luck with body oils healing my dry itchy skin. As I’ve gotten older, my skin is more sensitive to the sun and any exposure without sunscreen (like only 20 minutes having lunch outside) can result in an itchy red bumps. Using a body oil helps heal those bumps.
Here are a few body oils that will keep your skin touchably soft and smooth:
Mama Mio O-Mega Body Oil ($35) – This is probably the best moisturizing treatment I’ve had the pleasure of using yet! It is extremely hydrating, NOT greasy, absorbs ultra fast and gives immediate results. The scent is very light, fresh and clean–a lovely combination of citrus and white floral that doesn’t overpower. It is pricey, but I think having soft, supple skin is worth it. Highly recommended!
L’Occitane Almond Supple Skin Oil ($40) – Enriched with almond oil, rich in omega-6, and Cameline oil, rich in omega-3, the Almond Supple Skin Oil softens the skin, leaving it feeling toned and more supple. In addition, the formula integrates silicium which effectively fights lack of firmness by promoting skin’s support tissue synthesis. Skin is firmer and smoother making this oil ideal for pregnancy or periods of weight loss. Awesome!
The fragrance is soft and light with a sweet almond scent. After your shower or bath while your skin is still damp, pump a few drops into your palm and massage into your skin. It absorbs super fast and is NOT greasy. I can’t stop rubbing my legs together after applying this, my skin feels amazing AND using this oil for just a few days made my heat rash disappear!
Smith Farms Honeysuckle Hair and Body Oil ($16) – this is made with one third each jojoba, sweet almond and sunflower oil. This light and fast absorbing oil is as good for your hair as it is for your skin. Enriched with vitamin E and honeysuckle essential oil, this multipurpose oil is as decadent as it is hardworking. I love the light sweet fragrance. Apply when you skin is still damp from the shower and you will feel really soft and touchable. I place a few drops in my palms, rub together and work into my dry legs. The left over I pat onto my wet hair to prevent frizzies!
Champney’s Citrus Blush Dry Body Oil ($7.99) – Champney’s (my fav drugstore bath and body line) has a great budget body oil that won’t break the bank. The scent is amazing–and uplifting natural mix of cardamom and lemon that will invigorate and moisturize your skin, leaving you smelling lovely and sweet. This high-quality oil will not leave your skin feeling greasy, but hydrated. It is not a rich and thick as the other oils mentioned which makes it perfect for the warm summer months!
