This may be a form of OCD, but I feel disheveled and incomplete when my nails aren’t painted. They don’t even need to be done well, they just need to be painted… and the brighter the better. As far as manicures go, I almost always bring my own polish to the salon. That way, I can bring the color home and touch up/change my own polish to freshen things up after a week or so! I’m all about extending the life of beauty treatments because let’s be real, who has time to sit in the chair every week?
Since I bring my own polish to the salon, I’m constantly buying new polish. There are a few things that make me gravitate toward a polish … the shape of the bottle, the handle (when they are too small I drop it!), and the color! From there, the applicator becomes the final test. No one likes a nail polish brush that’s too small! Somehow, after years of trying almost every polish under the sun, I am somehow JUST trying butter LONDONnail lacquer ($15) for the first time. I’ve been seeing the butter LONDON display at Ulta for years and I’ve noticed the bottle in magazines, but this was admittedly my first time trying the brand.
Butter LONDON is classified “3 Free” which means they don’t contain harmful ingredients like formaldehyde, toluene, or DBP. The more products I review, the more aware I’m becoming of chemicals and ingredients … so Butter LONDON’s “3 Free” label is definitely a plus. Less harmful ingredients = healthier products. For starters, I love the bottle. The rectangular shape is easy to hold and the wand is just enough to get a good grip for application. The color … ohhhh the color. I tried two polishes from the Bright nail lacquers and boy were they vibrant. One coat of both the yellow shade called Cheeky Chops and the pink hue Primrose Hill Picnic gave a nice vibrant shade.
This photo shows just one coat. I was very happy with the fun, vibrant colors, but wasn’t in love with the lasting power of the polish. I don’t know if my top coat was to blame or what, but my polish actually peeled itself off of two of my fingers in the shower after only being applied three days earlier. I can usually get a solid week out of a manicure, so that was slightly disappointing, but I couldn’t pin point a reason why it happened.
I’m looking forward to trying more shades from Butter LONDON’s nail lacquer line as they have dozens of beautiful colors available and continue to release more and more. The shades are too fabulous not to try. Next time, I’m going to try Butter LONDON’s top coat because I’m willing to bet that will make all the difference.
