Memorial Day Weekend is officially upon us, which means that the kickoff to summer has officially begun. For me this has meant a frantic dash to get myself ready for bikinis, sun, short shorts, sandals and the heat and humidity that comes with summer. My first step towards getting myself “summerified” was to make sure that I was as fuzz free as possible…which meant a good old fashioned all out do-it-myself waxing session.
Since I had an insane travel schedule and no time to go to a salon, I decided to undertake waxing on my own. I wanted to make sure I was fully prepared and that I did it the correct way, so I employed an arsenal of at home waxing products from clean+easy and Gigi. The products from Gigiincluded: an Anesthetic Numbing Spray that is used before waxing to take the sting out, a Bikini Soothing Cream, used after waxing to soothe and moisturize the skin, Slow Grow with Argan Oil to minimize the appearance of new hair growth and No Bump Roll-On to eliminate ingrown hairs, bumps and razor burns. The clean+easy products included; an Almond Coconut Wax, a Petite Wax Warmer, Wax Strips in small, medium and large for every part of the body, Spatulas, Remove After Wax Remover and Restore Dermal Therapy Lotion to soothe, condition and protect the skin post waxing. I was not kidding when I said and arsenal of products!
The first step in my at-home waxing adventure was to warm the clean+easy Almond Coconut wax in the Petite Wax Warmer. This process took about 30 minutes and it took every fiber of my being to stop myself from sampling a spoonful of the wax because it smells just deliciously heavenly. I then applied the Gigi Anesthetic Numbing Spray to the first area, my bikini line, I planned on waxing which for me is usually the most painful. After leaving the Numbing Spray on my skin for about three minutes I applied a bit of powder to the area I was waxing, then applied the wax with a spatula. As suggested in the usage directions, I then placed the clean+easy Waxing Strip over the wax and rubbed the strip firmly in the direction of my hair growth. Holding my skin taut, I then quickly pulled the waxing strip in the opposite direction of my hair growth. In one very quick instant I was fuzz free on that area. I, of course, repeated this on every single surface that showed signs of fuzz which included my bikini area, upper lip, eyebrows and arms, unfortunately….or fortunately, the hair on my legs were not long enough to wax.
Even with the Numbing Spray, I still felt a bit of a sting, but it was not as painful as it normally is. The wax itself worked really well and was not overly messy. The clean+easy Remove did an awesome job of removing any waxy residue on my skin…or bathroom surfaces. The Gigi Bikini Soothing Cream did exactly what the name says…it soothed my skin and prevented it from feeling irritated and the redness that I normally experience after any DIY waxing did not last as long. The Gigi No Bump Roll-On had a cooling effect on my skin which felt amazing. Since using the kit I’ve been faithfully using the Gigi Slow Grow Hair Minimizer with Argan Oil to hopefully slow any regrowth. I can’t really tell if it is working, but hopefully with prolonged usage I will be able to tell.
I used the Gigi and clean+easy at home waxing products a couple of days before shooting in a bikini on Miami Beach and I was really pleased with the results. I had smooth, hair free skin free of bumps or irritation. Memorial Day weekend is one day away and I am fuzz free and ready…let the barbecues begin!
