Behind the Scenes: Known Rollerball Perfume

Shannon Smyth
Known Roll On Perfume

A Girl's Gotta Spa! roll on perfumes have become increasingly popular since we expanded our bath and body line two years ago to include them.

Our latest fragrance, Known, is coming at a time when things really feel mostly... unknown.

We began crowdsourcing last Fall to find out which scents people were loving lately, and rose overwhelmingly topped the list.

If you're a customer of our lovely products, you know we usually like to keep the citrus tie-in throughout each product. However, as with our Synergy Himalayan Salt Scrub, we decided to forgo that with this perfume.

Known Rollerball Perfume

Top note: Wild Rose
Heart notes: Black Currant, Tea Rose
Base notes: Green Angelica, Papyrus

A Girl’s Gotta Spa! uses only pure essential oils, phthalate-free oils and grapeseed oil to bring you a roll on perfume that is vegan, clean and Leaping Bunny certified cruelty free. No parabens, no alcohol, no petrochemicals.

Naming the Perfume

It's always fun to explain to you my stream of thought when naming A Girl's Gotta Spa! products. This one stumped me for a while, though!

First, if you are familiar with Arise and Soar roll on perfumes, then you know that they are complementary words - you have to first arise in order to soar.

Second, I like to choose names that inspire, encourage and uplift. So as you may have guessed, the names don't typically describe the notes in the scent.

It took me about 2 months to finally land on Known.

What Does Known Mean?

Since our launch point is a rose fragrance, I thought about all aspects of this flower. I finally asked myself - what does a rose represent to most people?

Love.

What does it mean to be loved? To me, it means to care for someone so deeply and unconditionally, irregardless of their flaws.

To Be Loved is to be Known

Here's the thing - to be loved doesn't always have to mean someone loving you. It can absolutely also include YOU loving YOU. It's a self-love party up in here!

I hope you will love Known as much as I do. Find it on our webstore: Known Rollerball Perfume

Malia B Luv Perfume Review

Shannon Smyth
Malia B perfume oil review via @agirlsgottaspa Some of the best perfumes are made by indie brands. When I first began blogging in 2005, I came across perfumer, Sharon Bolton, and her amazing fragrances. For a few years she went off the radar, but I was so thrilled when she recently reached out with the relaunch as Malia B (named after her daughter.) Malia B has three perfume oils that come in packaging using post-consumer materials, which are embedded with wildflower seeds so that you can plant it and grow something beautiful. The nature-inspired perfume oils are: Luv: White flowers, gardenia and vanilla Soul: Pineapple, Papaya and coconut Malia: Orange and Jasmine with a fresh top green note Malia B perfume oil review via @agirlsgottaspa I chose Luv, because I typically wear perfumes that have floral notes. I was not disappointed at all. It smells incredible! It has a fragrant sweetness to it that cannot be described - other than that I want to wear it all of the time. It is perfectly feminine and the scent is long-lasting. Each Malia B perfume oil comes in a 1/8 rollerball and price ranges from $38-$40. You can also purchase 5ml samples for $2. Raw Spirit Fragrances Desert Blush Review

Shannon Smyth36 comments
Raw Spirit Desert Blush fragrance review via @agirlsgottaspa A heady scent featuring wild-harvested Australian sandalwood and a hint of the intoxicating floral note of Australian Boronia. Prior to getting Raw Spirit's Desert Blush fragrance into my hands and (immediately, because OMG) onto my skin, I had never experienced the scent of Australian Boronia. As someone who is not really a fan of the earthy and woody fragrance of sandalwood, the sweet and floral aroma of the boronia literally MAKES this perfume. The floral scent is the perfect complement to the sandalwood, creating something so utterly inviting. Raw Spirit Desert Blush fragrance review via @agirlsgottaspa Desert Blush, like all of Raw Spirit's fragrances, comes in both a rollerball and eau de parfum. I've used both, but definitely like the convenience of the rollerball to be able to have control over the application amount as well as it being small enough to fit into my purse. Desert Blush (and all Raw Spirit fragrances) is marked as unisex, however, I do feel like this is a feminine scent. But as all perfume oils interact with everyone's body chemistry differently, you may find it smells differently for you. Raw Spirit Desert Blush fragrance review via @agirlsgottaspa While the perfume is simply encased in nondescript glass packaging, it really is the outter box that lures you in with its muted hues, gold embossed font and canvas texture. You feel like you are about to open something of substance. And more so, something you can't live without. Raw Spirit Desert Blush fragrance review via @agirlsgottaspa The Raw Spirit brand was inspired by Australian photographer Russell James' collaborative art project, Nomad Two Worlds, which explores the clash of ancient and modern cultures and celebrates the richness of Indigenous and marginalized communities around the world. You can learn more about how this brand came to life via their about page. Other fragrances from Raw Spirit include: Fire Tree: a sensual, unisex, smoky and sweet fragrance oil Wild Fire: a dry, woody, sensual scent Bijou Vert: a fresh fragrance with sensual depth Citadelle: a clean, refreshing fragrance Winter Oak: a smooth, creamy, warming scent Summer Rain: a fresh and invigorating citrus fragrance If you're not sure which fragrance would best suit you, they do offer a Discovery Set. If you have a Barneys New York nearest you, stop by their fragrance counter to experience these scents for yourself. Subscribe to A Girl’s Gotta Spa! beauty blog.
